While the world was locked into the Super Bowl LX National Football League (NFL), watching the Seattle Seahawks vs New England Patriots,
Chipotle Mexican Grill was busy running a completely different play 🌯🏈
Instead of competing with the Big Game, they played alongside it.
Chipotle told people to:
🔔 Turn on Instagram notifications
👀 Keep an eye out for the reel on Instagram
⏱️ Be ready for “the realest 30 seconds of the game” after the second quarter
And then… boom.
Right after the second quarter ended, they dropped a reel that stayed live for just 30 seconds with a text-to-win keyword unlocking $1M worth of burritos.
100,000 codes.
Gone in under 5 seconds.
I was refreshing their page for quite some time(for research… obviously 😅) and watched their followers jump from 1.7M to 1.8M in real time. Stories kept rolling, reminders kept popping up, and people were fully convinced this was legit.
“This code drop is for REAL.”
And yep — it really was.
BUT here’s the interesting part 👇
By today, the follower count was back to 1.7M.
Which probably means:
– People who didn’t win felt a little heartbroken 💔
– Some hit unfollow just as fast as they followed
– Classic giveaway behavior kicked in
And honestly? That’s okay.
Because even with the drop-off, Chipotle still:
✔️ Hijacked real-time attention
✔️ Turned viewers into active participants
✔️ Dominated conversation during the game
✔️ Proved that urgency + culture > overproduced ads
No AI hype.
No cinematic brand film.
Just timing, tension, and burritos.
Safe to say, It was a win for the Seahawks 🏆
A win for Chipotle
And a very emotional rollercoaster for foodies everywhere 🌯😂
Did you try to catch the drop?
And more importantly… did you win a burrito?
