almost done w red rising. I didn't go into it prepared for the sheer amount of greco-roman mythology references; it's been a golden chicken nugget tray of hedonism for my little greek-mythology-obsessed brain to feast on. i've never felt so urged to have a pen nearby to annotate a book.

anyway. why is the Jackal the only standout reference to egyptian mythology so far, pierce

I don't usually post about irl stuff w/pics, but I wanted to post my cat Doc + his new baby sister, Lini 🥰

We found Lini as a stray not even two months after getting Doc (at the same age we got him!) My partner had been talking about getting a second cat, which I thought was insane bc we'd just gotten Doc, but he was insistent that he just really needed a friend while we were away at work. I don't like admitting I'm wrong but I think he was right lol.

Anyway, they didn't get along for the first few days (after she was quarantined for a bit, of course). As you can see tho, they're getting along just fine now. I love them so so much. I really missed having a cat and now I've got two, and amazingly, the stray is the one who turned out to be the healthier one. (Poor Doc and his URIs.) Life's funny like that.

thinking about how I read a book review when I was younger (much younger) about the second book in the Graceling series and how that review said it wasn't good because it wasn't as well-written as the first book, a major reason being that the second one mentioned menstruation way too much, and realizing (years down the line) that is a stupid reason; yet at the time it convinced me I didn't need to finish that series. so I didn't. now I'm going back and finishing it, especially after seeing that it's actually young-adult-real-adult fiction not just written for teenagers and is much more promising than I could have anticipated

hello??? was the first one that was quite literally the hunger games on eight million steroids not fucking wild enough????? also let’s be for real, there are some pretty visceral similarities (drafting? rankings? teenagers? survival of the fittest in a controlled environment? gifts sent to favorite players by sponsors? our dear protagonist aiming and letting fly a long distance weapon at the gamemakers, anyone? rigged games set to favor the most likely to win, such as the laurel at the beginning?)

don’t worry tho pierce i’m not gonna accuse you of plagiarism. just a few general plot holes. but your trial will be swift and easy. fear not.
