plot is this woman called adele has a manic episode and spends literally all her money just travelling blindly, she starts coming out of it and now realises shes too broke to go back home and is stuck on this mountain, surely she can just get a part time job or something until she can afford the bus fare back right? wrong!
we got metaphors for trauma, we got themes of isolation and abandonment, we have found family, we have self destructive people refusing help for their problems, and almost the entire cast is queer

For ashstone do you think any of the characters had avoidable fates? Like, could any of them do an action or even inaction to prevent whatever trouble(trauma) they could have gotten.

sasha could have reached out for help, elaine could have told people about how bad it was getting at home, adele could have talked to people long before she even got on the bus, gabriel could have put his foot down on odettes obsession, odette could have let ets parents go and let go of the grief, madeleine could have told someone sooner, lenore could have told someone before it happened, bernard could have stopped trying to give maddie the benefit of the doubt, maddie could have actually looked at her actions and realised she was hurting everyone she cared about, reuben could have stopped enabling sasha
but i do wanna say the cases of what happened to all of them that for them all they didnt See other choices
adele was in a episode, she had just needed to get out and away from everything, she had no idea she would end up on the mountain, and she had no idea that odette was so obsessed with revenge
sasha felt betrayed by his friends and couldnt put this on his parents as he cares for them and theyre too sick, he had already resigned to not getting off the mountain when he realised, he was going to go on a self destructive spiral no matter what, it just got worse when he met sasha
madeleines family are very tight knit and theres been high expectations for em and eir siblings for as long as ey can remember, ey learnt young that asking for help didnt end well and this was so big that ey didnt even consider it
gabriel cares about odette as if et was his own child but he knows he cant replace ets parents, so he let et spiral and drift away because he was too afraid of overstepping, and that led to much much worse things than he could have ever known

our protagonist is adele quinnsley, a trans woman who recently had a manic episode and spent all her savings idly travelling until she ran out and ended up on the mountain, shes someone you can trust to call if you need help with something but she doesnt really open up about her own problems to people, also she has a guitar!
the character adele interacts with the most is odette misory! a local to the mountain who seems to be so happy and lighthearted right up until the moment you enter ets apartment and see everything, ets got a lot going on right now and wont take no for a answer on ets plans, no matter how much ets godfather tries to talk et out of it
another very important character is sasha hoffman, a 18 year old whos stuck on the mountain giving hospice care to his parents, hes self destructive and reckless and sick of everything, he never directly interacts with adele but both of their actions keep echoing back onto eachother so theyre linked regardless!!
we got more characters but these three are the main Main ones yknow kjhgfdfghk

adele meets odette going up to the store which et lives above to be like "hey this is really stupid but i cant afford the bus fare home is it alright if i work for you for a few days?" which is a very funny interaction to me
i dont remember if i mentioned but adele has bipolar disorder!
sasha has bad acne cause its important to me as someone who gets acne to have a character with acne
also everytime i think about sasha his hair gets longer sobs i dont know whats happening to my mental image of him rn but his hair keeps growing its past his shoulders now
adele gets taught how to shoot a gun in the gayest possible way by odette btw and its great
also at one point both of them get lost in the fucking woods which is funny cause adele has a excuse that shes not local but sasha has lived on the mountain his entire life so what the fuck dude

god ambrosi would NOT have tumblr hes too old for that 😭but if he did it would just be photos from his porch
adele would have a tumblr to post music on and at the start of the story she stop posting and then comes back at the end with a "sorry for the hiatus! i have a partner now and so much trauma"
odette canonically is a musician on youtube [think annapantsu] so et would just be posting as normal as if things arent going terribly wrong, so song covers and lil aesthetic reblogs
im not including the kids ones 5, ones 9 and the other is illiterate sobs none of them are getting tumblr, reuben also doesnt have a phone so hes not included but if he did have a phone hed be jsut posting blurry photos of the horrors
gabriel would just have a tumblr to reblog odettes posts to be proud of et, also would not be acknowledging the horrors

anyway for my favourite scene its gotta be the one at the motel!
ill set the scene: bernard has just seen his sisters blood hit the window of their motel room, he has his daughter in the room with him and this weird kid she befriended but his 5 year old son is Still Out There Somewhere, hes terrified, he doesnt know whats happening, all he knows is something is RIGHT outside, so he does the only thing he can think of: he grabs the two kids in the room and drags them into the closet with him, theres barely enough room but theres no where else that he can think of that will protect them from the fate waiting outside, the bathroom is too open and out in the room is as well, he hears his daughter tell him hes holding her too tight, that hes hurting her, but he cant let go, he just apologises and holds her tighter, desperately hoping that whatever that thing thats claw is scratching the window will leave
