First Day of School 9.4.18
This is late, of course, because I’m a terrible mother and blogger, but last week, the kiddos had their fist day of school!
Avery and Addie are in their last year of middle school-8th grade! Yes, they’re excited to be at the top of the food chain of their school! They’re the “big kids” in this case, and enjoying every second of it.
The “twinning” thing is long gone, though. I used to send them off with matching outfits and hair, and they now balk at that very idea. Their personal styles are coming through, and even though I may not always agree with their choices, I let them express themselves (within reason!)
Dance classes and cheer leading have already started back up too, so we are INCREDIBLY busy here in the Simmons household! The girls seem to be liking their teachers so far, and don’t have issues doing their homework either.
Noah started 3rd grade this year! He loves his new teacher and has a few of his friends in his class! He’s also starting to find his own style, but I still have to guide him most days, to his dismay. "It’s not COOL mom!” He tells me. I have to just laugh it off, Christian says he did the same thing with his parents when he was Noah’s age.
Noah is also doing well so far, keeping up with his homework along with his soccer and football practices. They’re only one day a week each, so he’s not in over his head quite yet. He told me he doesn’t know how Avery and Addie do it! I have to agree with him!
And then there’s my dear Brooklyn. My baby isn’t my baby any longer! She started pre-K this year, and was SO excited about it! She leaves with Noah and I grab her at 12:15 every day, and every day, she tells me how AWESOME her teacher and new friends are! Her teacher has called me and told me what a firecracker Brooklyn is and that pretty much the entire class wants to be her friend. This doesn’t surprise me in the slightest, she’s easily the loudest of my children and has a personality to envy. She woke me up at three am on the first day of school asking if it was time to get up yet.
Brooklyn doesn’t have homework yet, but she gets jealous that she doesn’t, so I print out some educational coloring pages for her and let her do those and grade them for her when I check over everyone else’s homework at night. I hope she doesn’t loose that thirst for knowledge!
We’ll see how the kids feel on the last day of school, right now they’re still bright-eyed and excited because it’s all new, but usually, around October, they start singing a different tune.
