Since many people discovered lightcannon through arcane, I’ve seen people call Lux the demacian equivalent to Cait and lightcannon as similar to caitvi. What do you think? Cause i don’t see it.
Really the only similarity is that Lux is from a rich family. That's about where it ends.
The Kirammans are a mercantile family, the Crownguards are old world feudal nobility, its like the difference between being a Hilton and being a Habsburg.
The whole core tension of CaitVi is the oil and water thing, Caitlyn is from the privileged upper class and Vi is from the struggling underclass directly oppressed by Caitlyn's side of the fence and that causes the friction and "two houses divided" vibe.
That isn't present for Lightcannon. Jinx is a total outsider to Demacia and its problems, same for Lux in PnZ. Demacians have never done anything to Zaun. Yeah, Lux's family would hate Jinx and do everything in their power to stop Lux from associating with her, but that also depends on timeline. Post Mageseeker that also becomes less relevant as Lux is outed as a mage and living in hiding.
If any of Lux's ships (or friendships in this case ymmv) have CaitVi vibes, it's actually Sylux because Sylas is directly oppressed by the ruling class Lux is a part of. But Lux herself is part of the same persecuted underclass as Sylas because she is also a Mage. So even there it hits different, because Lux has to directly choose between her family and her desire to see mages free and safe. Those two cannot coexist.
And unlike Caitlyn (no shade or hate on her, but this is a point of difference) Lux doesn't dig in on her side of the fence after being burned by Sylas, but attempts to choose a third way, shedding her privileged position to become the protector of an impoverished mage refugee camp, but refusing to join the violent action of the revolution, in part out of pragmatism to protect herself and her vulnerable community from reprisal.
Whether that's a good choice on her part or not is another discussion. But Lux as of post Mageseeker has more in common with Ekko than she does with Cait.
All of that only circumstantially relates to her relationship with Jinx, though, because again, Jinx is a total outsider to Demacia and doesn't fit at all into its social hierarchy.
So yeah I know LC detractors try to paint it as an oppressor/oppressed ship, but that's absolutely stupid and nonsensical. It'd be like if I married a rich Norwegian with old blood connections. I have no connection to Norway and live thousands of miles away, how am I the oppressed in this equation?
However if we're talking more of a positive or tongue in cheek comparison there is fun stuff to be had in poking fun at Lux and Cait both having soft spots for rambunctious undercity girls and Vi giving Jinx crap for giving her so much crap about Caitlyn and then also falling for a posh girl (albeit a posh foreigner with a very different personality and background)
That can be pretty fun to play with. But its not a very deep or serious comparison. They're just two different situations with very different people.
Got bored. Made this inside joke meme with friends but honestly even without context it’s just funny
So behold. Sylas meme while I’m still a lil sick
