H o n e s t l y it bothers me so much when it's portrayed as like, he literally just reverts back to McGraw / some former version of himself. Like @ silver (and everybody) that's,,, not how trauma works, you don't just get to go backwards and undo it all. That doesn't mean he has to be the same twisted person forever but it does mean you can only go forward and hope your scars heal, you can't go backwards and be the same person you were before you ever got scarred.  And Silver must know this if he actually asks himself, too, because there's no way he could go back to the person he was before Flint, and his transformation happened in a much shorter time. It's such a bittersweet and alien idea he's insisting on, that with Thomas he's somehow resurrected McGraw, when McGraw just... doesn't exist anymore to be resurrected.

I agree, you definitely can’t go back. Flint may have been conjured out of destructive grief and John Silver constructed out of repression of his past but they are those personas. They became them. Silver’s walls are an insane mess to navigate lol

Nah dawg poetry can be about anything. Poetry can be cheek or thinly veiled fanfiction; philosophy, bullshit, whatever u want.

lemme tell you a story: when i was fifteen i submitted an anthology of ten poems to a poetry convention at the university i would eventually attend.  i did not know at the time that this poetry would be judged and awards would be presented.

i won for the anthology for my grade.  this meant i had to read the first poem in my anthology to a room containing a few hundred people.

it was kirk/spock poetry comparing them to achilles/patroclus and alexander/hephaestion.

(that said the trouble is, when i write this sort of poetry, which is my favorite kind, and i don’t explicitly mark it as fanfiction, i feel like i’m trying to pull a fast one on readers and that they’ll hate it (and me) when they inevitably figure out that x poem was actually about y fictional character)

Lots of things! :) Seriously I am easy to please and generally an upbeat person (annoying I know), so I find joy in a lot of places. My husband, talking to my parents on the phone, getting mail that isn’t junk/a bill, writing and reading, texting my best friend, getting a little treat like a donut or a stupid tiny toy (I have an embarrassing amount of Shopkins for a woman who’s pushing 30), a good cup of coffee, an excellent glass of wine, making someone laugh (this is a huge one, and the harder it is to make you laugh, the more joy I’m gonna feel when I finally do it), wearing cute pajamas…I could go on, ha.

you know what thats fuckin true. some aspects were left underdeveloped and could have benefited from more screen time. im really glad it was a Complete and Resolved show, and i wouldnt want it to go on endlessly, but spreading it out a bit more could have been possible and would have allowed for greater explanation of all those sorts of things.

Right?? So. Much. More. I agree, definitely not endlessly but at least one more season would have benefited it. I feel like they shoved a lot into S4 (it was done superbly) but I would have liked to have seen more development.
