really sucks when you miss your writing deadline to a mental breakdown...
Hello! What inspired your story The Dream Estate?
Hello! I actually started writing The Dream Estate a million years ago, back whan I was in college. It was probably my first or second story ever? The main character’s name was Carson and he’d been in a terrible accident and was wandering through a horror/nightmare scape while in a coma. I never finished it. And then I tried writing the story again with a different lead and a different premise. And again. And again. I didn’t notice that I was just rewriting the same concept over and over again until I beat The Evil Within 1, which (you guessed it) has a similar premise. I went through a phase of “I can’t write this, oh no, someone else already did it” and “I have to write this, I’ve been trying for so long, there’s a reason I love this”. But I was writing Legends of Casteval at the time, as well as A Doctor in Union.
I’m still obviously very much into The Evil Within, and have a discord server around it. I was planning out the sequel to A Doctor in Union while chatting about some other scene I wanted to write fic for, but it didn’t seem completely in character. My friends were interested in it, helpe push me to do it, and I wrote the introductory scene for Dobry, even though he didn’t have a name yet. A Detective in Junction, the sequel to A Doctor in Union, was then changed a bit into the third story in The Dream Estate series, though I’m now not sure how well that will work, I am still planning on stealing scenes from it.
The story of The Drea Estate I’m writing now is actually the second of the series, though I feel like A Detective in Junction is taking up far more of my writing energy right now and work is taking the rest (aka why I’m dead right now and haven’t written anything for the next chapter). I really want to focus more on The Dream Estate!
"Woke up" to some unsolicited critique on one of my stories and it left me feeling very pumped to continue the story (proving people wrong and improving motivates me) and only a little frustrated. One of the critiques was that I wasn't focusing enough on the goal but if I had dinner that the story would have been 2 chapters instead of the planned 24.
