Probably because IT REALLY WORKS AND IS GENUINELY USEFUL! It’s also at the core of musical theory which makes it super musical as well and translates to other instruments. 65bpm+ unaccented single strokes working through quarter notes; quarter note triplets; eight notes; eight note triplets; sixteens; sixteen triplets; thirty second notes - and I love coming back down again. This can also be played using other common stickings such as doubles and paradiddles, and becomes remarkably challenging keeping track of the “one”! I have yet to try Flams and Drags but they’re on my radar. The accented Grade 7/8 Rockschool version can also be practiced, although the 5/7/9/10 tuplets are a bit bonkers and not really very useful for playing pop music.
