PLEASE MENTION ANY IMPORTANT INSPIRATIONS (this can be comics/any specific issues etc, movies, shows, novels etc & please include any clear important events and/or arcs in your characters history including dates if you have any in mind):
given that he is my original character, there isn't really any media that i take inspiration from. however, i certainly have playlists and other works that contribute to character aesthetics etc. but in terms of important character events: killing his father when he was 25 is certainly up there with formative moments in dorian's life. but more on that down below in his biography…
WHERE DO THEY CURRENTLY RESIDE/OR MOSTLY RESIDE:
his own apartment above the shop in new york, but he'll also always have a room back in the original academy that took him in all those years ago.
ARE THEY ASSOCIATED WITH ANY TEAMS/GROUPS ETC OR HAVE THEY BEEN IN THE PAST (please mention these):
more loosely tied to SHIELD now as opposed to how entangled he was in recent years. works alongside the avengers and other such groups from time to time too. mostly in a hire out weapons master kind of vibe.
CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:
dorian always knew he was different from a young age. some of his first memories were of using his imagination, his mind to enable things to come to life. or, that's what he thought it was. now he knows it was telekinetic powers that made his toys move and seem to 'come alive'. it was something he was never afraid of, probably because his mother always taught him he should be proud of the magic and powers inside of him. he got it from her, after all, so she'd never tell him to be afraid of it. but she did, however, tell him he had to be careful with it. he was lucky, when he first presented his abilities, his mother was around. his father never saw it. apparently, having a child with these powers was too much and his father wouldn't like it.
not that dorian really knew much about his father anyway. he only saw him some weekends, and they never spent time together outside of their little home in the south of england.
he still remembers the night his father found out. bursting in to see dorian lifting a flame from a candle, letting it float and move through the air. he called him an abomination and locked him in the cupboard. that's when he heard all the yelling. it felt like it went on for hours… crashing… swearing… until suddenly it all went silent.
it's all a bit of a blur after that, dorian squeezing his eyes shut, terrified, just wishing for everything to stop for a moment, for him to be able to get away, to escape.
the next thing he remembered was opening his eyes to the rising sun, feeling the sand beneath him.
in the years that followed after, dorian eventually came to unravel the lost memories of the night that his trauma had pushed away with the help of the woman who found him on that beach, the one who promised to protect him and bring him somewhere safe. somewhere he could be around people like him. somewhere where he'd never be hurt again.
the academy was a wonder, a secret world tucked away, but not in shame, never in shame. it was a world of learning and teaching. it became home to dorian and it provided him with all the space he could want to grow his abilities. he's 18 when he crafts his first weapon imbued with magic.
jump forward and it's nearly the 70s and he's 25 and he's been working with the academy, he's been working with multiple organisations across the world. his work is popular, and he's an exceptional talent to have in a tight spot. but it turns out, a certain shadow he thought he'd never see again was sweeping in.
learning that his biological father had not only been scientist, but a secret spy working for HYDRA rocks dorian's world entirely. but it lights a fire in him, it sets him on a damn near fucking war path in truth. one that only ends when he has his father begging for his life, bleeding out.
he keeps that weapon that did it for life, but he never uses it again.
somewhere after this, dorian comes to realise he isn't aging anymore. the academy do some tests and, eventually, it's confirmed. he's not immortal, not really, he could still be hurt (though his healing had never exactly been at human levels anyway), could still be killed, but old age was never going to touch him. it's a weird thing to come to terms with, but… well. didn't it just open up life for him?
and what a life it's been so far, in and out with all sorts of groups through time, involved in all kinds of madness and near world ending scenarios. but somehow, he always made it through. it's been a whirlwind, and he's nowhere near done yet. it's all way too interesting to quit now.
ONE SONG THAT REMINDS YOU OF YOUR CHARACTER: paint it black by the rolling stones.
