A new personal favourite.

You are my heart - Chaptered, Angst, OT9 and broken!KaiBaek. At the age of fifteen, Kyungsoo and Jongin promised to marry each other if they’re alone by their thitieth birthday. At the age of twenty nine and thirty, Jongin goes through so much pain and heartbreak while Kyungsoo still pines silently. This teeters on tragic but have faith in the KaiSoo.

Always Have, Always Will - Twoshot. When Jongin looses to Junmyeon the opportunity to take sous-chef!Kyungsoo on a friendly date, he realizes that he might have wanted more all that time.

The Friend Zone - Oneshot, comedy, side!HunHan. Kyungsoo has been sent to the Friend Zone times and times again. He is unaware that his only bestfriend is exactly in the same position as him.

In plain sight - Oneshot, broken!ChenSoo. Jongin’s tired of seeing his bestfriend sad and heartbroken. All he wants from him is to move on. With him. 

What If - Oneshot, based on the song “What If”. On the day he plans on confessing, Kyungsoo learns that Jongin is dating Soojung. Uhm, it does have a happy ending but not the one you’re expecting. :,(

Good Intentions - Chaptered, slightly OT12. Kyungsoo is tired of his bestfriend constantly bringing new people to their house and comes up with an idea to quench Jongin’s (their) thirst. Kyungsoo’s a freaking music teacher and prepares a Christmas recital with lil kids and I love it.

nothing scares you about me and you - well well if this isn’t another gem from verseau >:) roommates kaisoo are just friends, best friends, but omega jongin is so oblivious and keeps hooking up with other alphas even though he loves kyungsoo's scent and kyungsoo also has his fair share of omegas which riles jongin to no end, yet he won't admit they're made for each other.

look - "he never thought he'd see that shine again but towards another person." the first ship is kaisoo, then jenkai happens, and then kaisoo again. basically kyungsoo is jealous of jongin being in a relationship.

Ain’t nice - Jongin definitely has a type. This has a nice plot twist, it’s otherwise angsty, and I wouldn’t say that it matches 100% the request but I said I should add it. It’s quite interesting.

Well I feel down lately and all I need is some angsty fics. But nothing super heavy( I can't handle that sh*t). Like one of them mocks the other (bullying, tbh) and later he feels guilty, (you know they hurt the other but in deep, he likes him). I know I'm not good at explaining, I hope you guys know what I mean :/

Hey there! I’m profusely sorry we couldn’t get this ask out on time but I really hope you’re doing better. But angst is always (ironically) positive, so enjoy!

Bullying/Mocking:

They Were Not Friends - Age swap, oneshot. Jongin refused the friendship of his new neighbour back when they were kids, and even through middle school. When he gives them a chance, he realizes Kyungsoo is more than an owl-eyed dongsaeng. Light angst and some nice mild fluff to top it all.

Black Magic - A classic by now. Mama Powers!AU, dragons!AU, OT-12 and multiple pairings. The criminal turned student who can “hear” stones fascinates teleporter Kai and triggers instinctive tension between them. Kyungsoo is bullied for basically the entirety of the fic, but magic and smut and tons of plot, so an important read. 

What We Find - Soulmates!AU by Indigomini (a.k.a a certified masterpiece). Jongin waited his whole life to find his soulmate but once he does, his entire beliefs are shaken. Kyungsoo is just a heartbroken jerk and Jongin is the most precious human being. Read for guaranteed heart squeezes, laughs and frEAKY times. 

Boundless - Abusive relationship, dubcon. While massaging Jongin’s scared body, Kyungsoo doesn’t know if he passionately hates or horribly loves the manipulative bully terrified by storms. Pretty nice and dark. 

Omega Nini - Jongin is an omega who has been bullied for long before turning into a bully himself, which is a major turnoff to rich bulky alpha!Kyungsoo. Not angsty but mentions of violence.

loving can hurt, loving can heal - Or how a bee causes Kyungsoo and Jongin to break up. Could’ve been angstier but the hurt is there.

Unlikely Friends - Harry Potter!AU, (kind of) enemies to lovers. Hufflepuff!Jongin and Gryffindor!Kyungsoo hate each other but only because their pets don’t accept to be separated. The angst is very minimal but they have some bad times. (side XiuHan and SuChen)

Hurts the other but regrets later:

Everlasting Light - Well, WELL. That was some intense beautiful writing there. I don’t wanna spoil, but both are hurt and both go extreme lengths to forget each other. An awesome fic, more on the heavy side but it won’t leave you sad. I wish I knew it earlier.

SUNFLOWER - Kaileidohscope! They break up in college because of Kyungsoo’s addictions and meet years later in Chanyeol’s wedding. Jongin is basically perfect in this fic and the feelings are portrayed really realistically and beautifully. Great angst.

Anything You Can Do - Yes, another one by Indigomini, I’m barely sorry. A fiery love-hate relationship that lasts for too long before they allow themselves second chances. Not too angsty but not light neither, and hehe, smut.

Eunoia - That’s a short one, more poetic than angsty. But I actually loved the vibe, and Kyungsoo gets hurt in the process oops.

forest fires - Awesome mild angst. Kyungsoo and Jongin are students in Cambridge in the 20s but from different social casts. It’s beautifully written, Jongin is the best poet irl anyway and Kyungsoo’s a stuttering artist.

November Sky - Blind!Kyungsoo is the only one who was prepared enough to survive the apocalypse, alone, or at least until he opens his door and his house to a starved Southerner. Angsty towards the end, but mostly fluffy in a vague cozy way. 

Been Through - Non AU, around 2016. Kyungsoo flies to Japan with friends to spend his and Jongin’s birthdays away and sets off Jongin’s mixed feelings. It’s a pretty intense smutty oneshot, and the ending is barely happy but INDIGOMINI AGAIN SO YOU BET IT’S GOOD.

I know now (we were meant to be) - Kyungsoo is a wealthy man who despises his privileged life. It gets even worse when his new bodyguard appears to be his ex from his military days. I love lowkey tsundere/rebellious Kyungsoo and strong Jongin. 

Take Off - Jongin is an exceptional ballet dancer and Kyungsoo can’t live with the fact that he’s holding him back from his dreams. Typical angst, so on the intense side of mild. Actually really good.

Smile - Kyungsoo is a war survivor and Jongin loves everything about him. I know this is not really what you asked for, but *this* is the angst I read when I’m feeling down. Just CJ’s bonus.

Storm in a Teacup - Vampire AU. Kyungsoo is a human, and he really IS fine without a vampire bodyguard abut Jongin just wants to get his job done. It takes both of them near death experiences for Soo to accept him and hurts him pretty badly in the process. Still (bitter?)sweet and well written.

Says something that makes the other cry (pertains to some fics above, too):

Garnet Hearts - everybody should have read it at this point but!!!  royalty au and arranged marriage, uhm how many times we cried too when kyungsoo said something hurtful to poor jongin?? yea :oovv//

Through the Midnight Streets - Jongin’s bestfriend and long time crush dates a girl and doesn’t reciprocate his feelings when he finally expresses them. Years later, in Paris where Jongin is a ballet dancer, they meet again and Kyungsoo inadvertently hurts him again. This is a masterpiece. The angst is perfect but the setting is even more mesmerizing.

The last of The Wilds - supernatural / nymph / forest spirit and human. jongin can see kyungsoo, the forest spirit who was cursed by a witch and lost his lover and jongin is a carbon copy of him. jongin falls in love with kyungsoo but ksoo is so stubborn he hurts jongin many times jefhfhsdf

Glucose Guardian (That’s Mighty Big of You) - Uhm, one of the first KD fics I’ve ever read and that kinda scared me away from sugar daddy!AUs. Now that I’m more “mature”, this is actually really hot and kinky.

The Internet is for Porn -  The newest high school!AU addition to my top KD favourites. There are so many smut scenes and Kyungsoo is a camboy and Jongin a really horny dude, yet, it feels balanced? sweet? hilarious? What is that Indigomini soonbaenim, sorcery? GOLD.

Juice Pouch - I extremely love how original and crack-ish this fic is. I think it’s a classic by now, because vampire!Soo and dad!Jongin exchanging favors for survival is just perfectly unsettling, funny, sexy and heartwarming. My go-to work for great (spicy) times.

Lawyer Up My Ass - Legally KaiSoo - Yes, so, the fics that made me realise semi-public sex is superior. And Kyungsoo seduces his hot boss. And they’re both smart and successful (and hella horny).

Amuse-Bouche - Chefs!AU and OCs.This one is really long and I still haven’t finished it, but the amount of smut, pfew. Also, my first open relationship fic. Therefore, actual angst warning and watch out for your hormones, this one’s wickedly addicting.

Hello there, fellow KaiSooists. I have never had as much concentrated written fun as when I was reading these fics. I really love intense violence/crime AUs and I had to leave out so many spy and hitman and military fics for the sake of sticking to mafia. SO I REALLY HOPE YOU ENJOY LIKE I DEFINETELY DID.

Mafia Boss - kyungsoo is the mafia mob leader / vampire and has his secretary jongin by his side. he has to protect jongin since they got an unexpected news from him (mpreg)

Mad Love - mafia au, jongin is kinda soo's trophy wife ;) lots of sexual tension, nini in stockings n purple cropped sweater uwu 

Bluff - ot12, unfinished but chaptered. My all-time full EXO favourite. In a mafia based on playing cards system, Kai is a Heart and Kyungsoo the “leader” of Spades. Jongin betrays his group to join Kyung. Tao-centric but godDAMMIT THIS AUTHOR PREDICTED LOVE SHOT AND LEFT US ALL HANGING. I adore this, I really do.

Not Good People - Kyungsoo only wanted to prove his independence to himself and to his mafia boss of a brother, but he wasn't going to complain  when he got unexpected sex ed from a hot gang leader.

Ascending Rain - Yakuza!AU, psychological, angst(?), mystery, smut. You know what's hot? Japanese mafia heir tatted up Jongin and pristine looking genius sociopath Kyungsoo. You know what's even hotter? Both of them being in the darkest love-hate relationship in between murders and mind games. So much plot, so many details, great OCs, and occasional first person chapters. Awesome read, too bad it's unfinished.

spring snow - Character death, multiple ships. This is practically the modern shorter version of 48 Hours.Yixing helps Jongin find the man he left behind and watches a mafia slowly die out. It's heartbreakingly good.

Running Up That Hill - Recced before, but I can’t not mention this legend. A chaptered masterpiece with suspenseful angst, awesome smut, intricate detailed plot, ot12 characters, side XiuHan, top!soo and violence. No matter what I do there is no way I can express how unbelievably addicting this fic is. Just read it, it should be a fandom classic by now. 

Cypher - OT12, ongoing.

smoke - Oneshot. Kyungsoo as the heir to a security firm discovers that his dad is caught in mafia business. Later, as a president, he is faced with the same pressure from Kim Kai, the heavy smoker mob leader himself..

safe like springtime - only two chapters so far, with Jongin being bratty son-of-a-mobster teenager!Kyungsoo’s confused bodyguard.

4x4 (and away we go) - Twoshot, smut, tw. The Kim family is indepted to the famous stoic mafia leader, Do Kyungsoo, and Jongin finds himself obliged to pay back.  Uhm, unsettling

Subterfuge - Oneshot, smoking. Kyungsoo’s a mafia leader, and Jongin a heavy smoker barman. Again, a subtle piece that leaves you wanting more. (a.k.a I’m really whipped for kaisoo and mafia!au)

bang and burn - Incomplete, 4 chapters, pretty heavy drug use, smut and very mild angst. Jongin doesn’t understand what his retired sniper ex did to be worth a million dollars, but dead. He also didn’t understand how in ten years, his pancakes and skin are just as delicious. Indigo’s (a.k.a my favourite active author) freaky shot at assassins. Pretty damn awesome. 

in their blood and from the gutter - Oneshot, angst, smut, side BaekXing and murders. Kyungsoo is an associate of the biggest mafia ruling the city. He’s constantly in danger but one assignment officially makes him a dead man. An intense great read ; I’m not a fan of open endings but holy damn, I loved it.

and your sexy enemies closer - SeKaiSoo, based on the Love Shot MV, with bits of crack and uhm, a weird fingering scene. It was pretty good and unsettling because my first KaiSoo+someone fic.
