48. “Stop flirting with me, I’m not going to fall for it.”
Brooklyn my love, I hope you like it!!
“But Sam!!” You pouted, holding your phone screen up to his face. The picture of the puppy that was just brought into a local rescue was pulled up, and it’s big, sad eyes tugged your heart strings. Sam wasn’t hearing it though. “Rosie needs a new brother, she’s so lonely when I’m at work and you’re on tour.”
“She doesn’t, Rosie is fine being an only child.” Sam smirked, scratching the dog behind her left ear as she snuggled him on the other side of the couch. “She’s just finally gotten used to sharing me with you, do you really want another adjustment period?”
“But he’s so sweet looking.” you sighed, looking at the pictures again. “He was found in a box on the side of the interstate. He’s had all his shots, is already neutered. He’s just a little guy.”
“You want a little guy? I’ll call Josh right now.” Sam joked. You shot him a glare and rolled your eyes. “Babe, I would love another dog, but I don’t want to put that responsibility on you. You already take care of Rosie when I’m gone, I can’t saddle you with another dog.”
“First of all, Rosie is not something you saddle me with, I love her very much, and love taking care of her.” you correct, turning and kneeling on your couch cushion. Rosie became annoyed from the moment and jumped down, trotting across the living room and jumping up in the big comfy chair. “Second, this would my dog. So he’d be my responsibility anyway.” Sam pursed his lips, scrunching them from side to side of his face. You sighed, and took advantage of him being lost in thought.
You hooked one of your legs over his lap, straddling him and putting one of your palms flat against his chest, right over his heart. He instinctually brought a hand up, resting it on top of yours. You took your other hand and twirled a piece of his long hair around your index finger.
“Sammy,” you poured again. “This poor baby was abandoned in the worst way. He needs someone who can love him and nurture him. Wouldn’t you say I could do that?” Sam nodded as he met your eyes. “You know I love you. And you’re so smart, and handsome, and you’ve raised Rosie so well.” you leaned forward, nuzzling the tip of your nose against his. His eyes fluttered shut as you let your lips graze over his.
“Y/N?”
“Yes?”
“Stop flirting with me, I’m not going to fall for it.” You opened your own eyes to see Sam smirking at you, a playful glint in his own chocolate brown eyes.
“Babe!” you flopped yourself to the side dramatically, arms above your head exasperatedly. Sam just laughed and took the opportunity to crawl over you, brushing your hair from your face.
“Baaaaabbbeee,” he laughed in a mocking tone, before placing a kiss on your lips. “Okay, okay, if it means that much to you, we can go see him tomorrow.” you gasped excitedly, spooking Rosie who had just started to doze off in her chair. “Just look! We are not leaving with a dog tomorrow.”
However, the next afternoon, the adoption papers and family photo by the shelter, said otherwise. Your new addition, Ringo, was panting happily between you, Sam and Rosie.
