Wonwoo didn't cry, didn't act out. Relief, instead, was what he found himself recognizing the emotion as. He had honestly saw it coming, and he guessed that, you know, this was probably for the best. All the ghosting, the awkward avoidance of eye contact - yes, this was what it was all eventually going to lead up to. It was rational.

but that thought didn't help fill up the hole punched through his soul. He was breathless. Empty. was the relationship really so insignificant?

(Not So) Cool Motive, Still Murder: Rage of Bahamut Virgin Soul Episode 22 Review/Rant

Well, I didn't expect to write anything so soon after I had just written my Rage of Bahamut Virgin Soul review a few days ago, and if I were to write anything more for the show, I thought I would do it until after the season ended, but after watching Episode 22....

I'm livid, but not surprised because the writers of Virgin Soul have proven to suck ass on multiple occasions. However, they fucked up ROYALLY with this recent episode. I could very well just not write this and be happy with life, but the mistakes that are made in this episode are so obtuse that I simply can't ignore them. 

To save some time, please read my last Rage of Bahamut review so that you can understand my perspective on this show. There I also explain some of the motives and flaws that Charioce and Nina have, and this episode flat out confirmed all my criticisms.

So be warned, because I'm going to rip this episode apart. In a way, this will be cathartic for me by the time I'm done, but I'm disappointed that I was driven to this point to begin with. 

With all that said, this is by far the shittiest Rage of Bahamut episode ever, not just for this season.

"Missed you :)" read the last message, a lone blue tick glaring against the warm tones dominating the chat wallpaper.

He should've known. Should've known that that was a blaring warning sign of a relationship crisis, should've done something to save them from this reality, should've just... done something else. Maybe that would lead to a different ending than this pathetic excuse of a breakup.

Should've known the moment he was perpetually overlooked by them in favour of other people at a gathering. Should've known the moment they avoided his gaze one too many times. Should've known the exact timing to let go, one that would save him from all these heartaches, being the one to dump them than being dumped.

Should've known. But at this point, what's the point? All's set into stone anyway.

A part of Minghao would hate himself for not allowing himself reprieve. But he had to be strong; it was the only way he knew how to response to things like this. His entire identity was built on nonchalance, on humour, and on determination. It's unhealthy - god, he knows - but he'd rather inflict this pain on to himself where he (thinks) he knows how to deal with quietly, than inflict it on others. So he sucks it all up.

even when he sees them laughing hard with another person.

Seokmin realized, maybe too belatedly, that this relationship really sucked him dry. In hindsight, maybe he had been too focused on them, rather than on his own needs - he focused on why they weren’t replying him, their every little mood swing, and he would always, always put them first on every list he had, be it the people he would buy gifts for, people he would spend time with, you get the gist.

He didn't know who to blame for the breakup. Them, for voicing out the inevitable? Himself, for being way too attached than he should? Their circumstance, for letting them meet each other when they were both still so immature and not at all ready for a relationship? He sighed, then stared blankly at his laptop. Probably more of his fault.

"The saddest thing in life is to fall in love with someone, then watch as they slowly fall out of love with you." It's true.

It had been all fairy dust and magic sparkles, the two of them cuddling on the couch watching movie marathons, skyping each other every night putting each other to sleep, having coffee shop dates every time it was nearing the exams; now it's all down to melted cotton candy, sickeningly sweet only in his memories.

He doesn't want to think of the moment he knew he should have prepared himself for the inevitable breakup. Doesn't want to think about how the breakup happened. Doesn't want to think about the exact words they said.

And yet they keep coming back to haunt him at his loneliest, quietest times.

The feeling of Wonwoo’s fingers, gently intertwined with yours, was your favorite way to be comforted. No matter if you were jittery, too alert for your own good, or just under the weather – the moment you reached out for him, he would always take your hand in his with a flustered, shy smile, thumbs fondly caressing the back of your hand. The advice your aunt gave about finding someone with large hands was indeed sound.

It's ironic, how they suddenly started to acknowledge his presence right after the breakup. Jihoon didn't understand why. Was it an extra effort to ease the tension?

Stop it.

Jihoon doesn't appreciate it, doesn't want it, doesn't want to deal with it. How long did it take him to build up this wall to barricade his feelings and toppling emotions, just for them to come and poke at it and watch it crumble down?

Impossible. He will not let it happen.

This time, he's going to have his guard up against heartbreakers. Ones just like them.
