December Soulmate Prompt Calendar
“Soulmate’s first words printed on skin”
Warning: HQ Olympic Teams, slapping, shouting, unwarranted holding.
Author's Note: Day 2 and I am still on top of things, awesome!! Now, while this character may not be one of my favorites, I realize he is a fav. of many. I hope I did him justice in this piece.
Hope you enjoy!
Now, Oikawa Toru was a name you’d heard of many times over the course of the years. But you’d never expected him to be the one to say those damning words.
You’d just wanted your team to focus on warming up before the exhibition game, and them being overtly friendly with the opposing team’s player for so long burnt your already short fuse.
Hinata and Atsumu had already fried away most of your nerves on the ride to the gymnasium. But to have the team’s trainer, both setter’s, the shortest hitter and the captain in a back and forth that kept growing in volume broke what little hold you had left on your annoyance control.
“Will you all just shut up and go hit some balls already!” You screamed at the group, wheeling around from where you stood off the courts on the heels of your feet. Stepping towards them with the intent to pull away any of the group that doesn’t begin their warm ups as instructed.
You were too focused on your own teams’ members to see the brunette’s back straighten out and the flick of his air as he trained a well-practiced smile towards your angrily approaching form.
Thinking you were too focused on arguing with Hinata about how he can go out for drinks and catch up with the famous old Oikawa Tohru after the practice match was finished, and that he shouldn’t be encouraging the others to be distracted, Atsumu, and Kageyama snuck away as to not incur your immediate wrath. Ushijima, ever invested in your ability to show your emotions so strongly just stood by waiting to see how you would attempt to reprimand him from your assistant coach position.
“Is the little princess upset from the lack of attention?” A voice rang in your ears, slicing through your own voice. While the burning words made you know for a fact that the speaker was your soulmate, after the tone that carried such words, and your current mood...you could not find it in yourself to care too strongly.
Before a second heartbeat completed, you whipped around and slapped him across the face. “I’m a coach, not a princess. Talk to me like that again and see if your coach ever lets you on a court with me in the room.” Walking away before anything more could be said, you went to the lady’s room to wash our face off; in an attempt to cool down a bit before running warm-ups in a bit more organized manner.
After a few splashes, you felt like you were ready to deal with all the levels of crazy your team offered you, momentarily forgetting that the words you’d concerned yourself about for so many years had finally revealed their owner.
Leaving the restroom you felt more than saw the person you ran into.
“Apologies, wasn’t looking where I walked.” You threw out, quickly moving to get out of the situation. A hand wrapped around yours, causing you to find the face of the individual. “Can I help you?”
“Well, when your soulmate smacks you and then disappears, it leaves one questioning themselves.” He spoke around a playful grin, but the tone told you he was a bit upset at the sudden first contact.
Your eyes rolled at that thought, knowing all the stories Iwaizumi had told you about his old team’s setter. “I’m sure it’s not the first time you’ve been smacked for a loose tongue.”
“Harsh.” He answered, “But not untrue. Am I ever going to get the name of the person whose screamed words have been tattooed across my skin my whole life?”
“Am I ever going to have a normal day again in my life, Mr. Oikawa?” You retaliated instead. You vaguely heard many footprints come to a screeching halt and snaked a look around your capture’s hold to see orange and blond hair peeling back around the corner. Assuming others had joined the excitable pair, you sighed out before continuing with the soft brown haired man currently attached to your hip. “Now’s not a good time. Can you not just focus on the upcoming game?”
Watching the twitch on the corner of his mouth just verified that the smile he’d been presenting was a practiced one.
“You want me to focus on a practice match between Japan’s national team, who my soulmate just happens to be the assistant coach of, after I literally just met her--still not being told her name, by the way--and yet you want me to focus on something as if none of that has happened?”
Catching his eyes directly, searching for a tell that he had realized you had an audience, you wondered if there was a way to tell him when you found none.
“Well?” He questioned, pulling you closer into his arms and against his chest.
You pushed yourself away from his chest and scowled at him, “Let go of me.” Following the command that sneered through your teeth he held his arms up in the air around his head. “You’re released.”
Rolling your eyes you began to walk back towards the gym, only to have your hand grabbed once more.
Tripping as you were pulled to his chest once more, he laughed at what you were sure was the anger written over your face.
“You were right, you know.”
“Right about what?” You questioned.
“You’ll never have a normal day now that we’ve been matched, (F/N).” As soon as he finished speaking he kissed your forehead before fully sprinting back to the gym away from you.
Screaming at the top of your lungs, your team members hiding around the corner knew that whatever fuse you had gained back from washing your face was gone ten times over and they had to get out of there before that rage was turned onto them.
