PLEASE RANT TO ME ABOUT FUCKING REMADORA BECAUSE I'M SO MAD RIGHT NOW I CANT EVEN THINK STRAIGHT

like i said in the last ask im not exactly surprised about what happened bc jkr has a habit of downplaying problematic elements in her work ((queer representation, abusive relationships, abuse in general [with sirius black as the exception i think she hit that one spot on])) but at the same time i was like yooooooo

i really thought it would have been a much more powerful literary choice to have an unhealthy relationship like what we thought remus/tonks was as a parallel to james/lily ((which also has huge potential for being somewhat unhealthy but once again jkr just kind of swept james's flaws under the rug in favor of using the star-crossed lovers trope, and so im taking that at face value here because in order to draw a parallel i have to attempt to see the work as she sees it)). so the way jkr seems to view james/lily is as two people destined to be in love in order to produce a sort of christ figure,, and since teddy is supposed to parallel harry as the War Orphan Pt. II i thought it would be interesting for her to have r/t be a direct contrast to j/l in that they would be more affected by how war-torn their society was since yknow remus has lived through this twice now and has suffered more losses than all of the others combined and just as a side note even if you are in love and even if you are smitten and even if you are absolutely meant for each other,, high pressure situations like the middle of a fucking war are generally not good breeding grounds for happy stable relationships. even if youve the red string of fate on your side you may not ((probably will not)) work out simply due to the stress and element of distrust etc etc

i honestly think we have to chalk it up to a flaw in jkrs worldview and a weakness in her writing ability. but then again this is characteristic of her characters' romances so we all know this drill already

im going to save my anger over the lack of a queer narrative for another post because this is getting long

opinion on john lupin & what he did in the first place to make greyback mad

THIS IS A GREAT QUESTION

right so

i like to think that john worked for the ministry as some sort of minor player in the larger whole

i kind of like to think it would have been something law-related like the improper use of magic office or the control and regulation for dangerous creatures ha ha ha

this is mainly because i really want orion black to be his boss and he would always try so hard not to talk shit about him but oh god he would hate him so much bc orion is all stuck up and whatnot and i see john as being rly modest and an Upright Person and kind of a gruff working-class dad sort of figure who hates cheaters and liars and all that kind of thing and orion would be just the sort of person he despised ((also he and sirius could talk shit over dinner at the lupins' sometimes))

and he may have sat in on the wizengamot sometimes not as a permanent member (like i imagine orion black to be) but just as one of the redrobes

and that would allow him to have a say in votes pertaining to the werewolf registry and related issues like that

and i think before remus was bitten john would see werewolves as creatures that must have tabs kept on them for the safety of the public like he wouldnt think they were disgusting or anything he would just think they were far too dangerous to not need identification numbers / restrictions placed on them etc

and i think greyback would come to john before a huge vote on something werewolf-related

and he would try to sway him into voting to abolish the registry or whatever

and john would be like "no i cant do that" and greyback would threaten him but john would be rly unconcerned bc at the ministry people throw empty threats around like nobodys business

and so he just goes about his day nbd

and then the moon comes and before bed he asks lil six-year-old remus to go make sure the gate is shut on their back garden fence

and greyback has positioned himself in the woods behind their house

and he waits until john is at the glass door like remus come on in baby its bedtime

and greyback fucking jumps at remus and bites him like his whole jaws go around remus's lil thigh and he drags him across the garden right just for a show

and john obviously like makes to scare it off and save remus but remus is already bitten and its not until they realize it doesn't heal like a regular bite that john puts two and two together

and figures out it wasnt just somebodys dog and that his lil son is not really the same anymore

and i think he would feel an immense amount of guilt about that and he would withdraw from the situation which remus would interpret as him not loving him anymore because of the werewolf thing

and it wouldnt be until remus got to go to hogwarts that john would kind of explain things to him in a brief sort of gruff manner

and remus would just be very hesitant in getting close to his dad again bc for as long as he can rly remember his dad has been distant when he needed him most

but they make up eventually bc remus does rly want to be on good terms with his family

and so all is well
