So what's a better way to end off the year by remixing your best paper?
What I do know is that this remix was surprisingly a success, even though I ended up making the final product in approximately two days rather than two weeks.
I had really, REALLY wanted to make a motion typography video.
But then I started working on it, and the more time I poured into it, the more obvious it became that I would not be able to finish on time.
Still, I persisted until I had less than a week left.
Luckily, I had a "Plan B".
It was a bit less focused on technology, and more about my talents as an individual; I'm referring, of course, to my drawing skills.
So I drew about eight different pictures (which took me about a day, altogether), and then I had the [less challenging] task of syncing the voiceover/songs (that, in itself, was a mash-up done at six this morning, by the way) and the pictures together, all while animating it in order to make it seem less boring than a slideshow.
So when it was all said and done, the animation looked a bit...well, 2009-10ish. Which is roughly the era where this narrative would've taken place. The hand-drawn pictures also are a throwback to my narrative, as I was always drawing something during that year.
Next time I have something like this, I'll have to remember that my backup plan will probably become my "Plan A", so I should spend more time on it. Also, if I didn't procrastinate, that would also be swell.
A list of all the technologies used: mechanical pencil, paper, Google Docs, OneDrive, Audacity, Adobe After Effects CS6, and Adobe Flash Professional CS6.
Purpose wise, I feel my remix successfully makes my narrative "come alive". Audience wise, my remix will reach a larger audience, and perhaps, I may have more of a positive reaction.
In recent discussions of whether my remix actually meets the criteria of the genre "Draw-My-Life", certain proponents claim that through the "write-on/mask reveal effect", this remix loosely fits the standards of the genre "Draw-My-Life", and as such, should be considered as a "Draw-My-Life" video.
The media/design part was easily met, but it took a while for the pieces to fit together.
And of course, the stance is very personal, and very subtle at times.
Also, the reason why my character is completely black is to show the separation of himself from society.
In this way, my remix might even be clearer than the original.
