The Iron Giant by Jason Raish
The Golden Age of Animated Robot Film Classics is upon us
Animated Classics: Les Misérables: D-tier
I'll be honest, this adaptation is very unremarkable. It's not all that good, nor is it the worst thing in the world. It just mostly is.
Good things first. Uhhhh, Éponine appears. I like Combeferre's design. And I guess I'll give them credit for (kinda) showing a suicide in a kids cartoon in the 80s. I wasn't alive in the 80s, but I was told doing that took balls to do that.
Apparently the studio that made this one was independant and family owned, so I'm not gonna criticize the animation too much, but it really looks like it was made by the same people who did the CDI Zelda games. Same goes for the voice acting. (Also why does Javert look like that). Also, Cosette looks like a Paradise PD character. It's distracting.
It feels really dumbed down, even for a kids version and it's extremely rushed. They don't let you get invested in any conflict ot let you process what's going on at all cause it's all either immediately resolved or ignored. There's one conversation between JVJ and Javert that explains what I mean perfectly; Javert: I've only seen one man with such strength before. A man from Toulon. From Toulon prison. A convict named Jean Valjean. JVJ: Hm, very interesting. Goodbye. (16:33 if you don't believe me)
Yet another example for why you can't just adapt 1600-ish pages into a 50 minute movie.
The intro spoils literally the entire story in under two minutes. If you're new to les mis and this is your first adaptation (very unlikely scenario), you'd probably be pissed.
This HAS to be the most rushed Cosette and Marius relationship EVER:
They meet
He's sitting at a bench, longingly, apparently waiting for her.
It immediately cuts to les amis chanting "Power to the people"
Enjolras (or who I assume to be him) has a beard for some reason. Also apparently Combeferre is the leader??
Then cuts to "Cosette I love you"
"Cosette, we need to talk"
"Marius, I'm moving"
This happens in the span of 2 minutes. I get what they're trying to get across, but it's just not done well.
There's no proper Fantine plot, no Gavroche, no grown Éponine, but Thénardier is there for some reason.
And why is Mme Magloire such a bitch in this one? "He's not free anymore >:)", like girl, what gives?
All in all, there is nothing about this I like, but there also isn't really anything I hate. It just is.
The one thing I love about this has got to be this comment on youtube though:
JVJ energy
I don't know how to end this so I'll leave you with this screenshot. May it haunt you into the next year.

Princess Aurora
Walt Disney's 'Sleeping Beauty'
Why..... are you different?????
Does anyone know which is the original??? Cause I though they were all small like the sleeping beauty one but today came the little mermaid and the size is bigger, some initial pages are different, the back is different, some fonts are different, and even the book material is different?
I bought them both on book depository, guess I should have read the description better but I didn’t think the same books had 2 different collections....
Anyway I’m keeping it but imma buy the small one next time
