The Benefits of Adopting
Hi Tumblr community, I'm trying to influence others to adopt their pets rather than buying them from a breeder or pet store. Please let me know your thoughts on my presentation.
Every year around six to eight million animals will be brought into shelters in the United States. More than two and a half of those six to eight million, healthy animals are euthanized because of space availability in shelters all over the country. While six to eight million dogs and cats are sitting in shelters, millions of dogs and cats are being intentionally bred. Some of these puppies will even end up in shelters themselves.
While I know we're all interested in the "puppy in the window," we need to recognize that in buying that said puppy, that we're participating in an even larger scheme. A scheme that entails starvation, dehydration, and physical abuse. Dogs that are imported from other countries into our own by breeders are generally starved and dehydrated before shipping to cut costs on weight. Isn't that just awful? While some of us think, "Well if I don't buy that puppy he's just going to be sitting there and that isn't right either." which is true, it will be sitting there, we have to realize that there's a bigger picture than that puppy. But don't worry, there's something we can all do to stop this!
We can all make an agreement to adopt our pets rather than buying them. We can run breeders out of business by not giving them any business. We can fix our dogs to ensure that they wont be making any puppies themselves. These are very simple steps that can be taken to solve a huge problem that's occurring in our country.
