The Caretaker
A story fragment by me, inspired by @editorincreeps
“Shhhh, there there child, it’s all going to be alright….” the eldritch horror cooed, cradling the girl in two of its larger tentacles and gently wiping away tears with an embroidered hankie with a smaller one. “No-one and nothing will dare harm you while I’m here.” When she seemed calmer, it produced a cool bottle of water from somewhere and deftly removed the cap with one of its fine manipulators. “Mustn’t let you get dehydrated, dearie.” As she drank, the elder fiend started burbling a strange, but sweetly melodious lullaby. The child slowly relaxed, eyelids beginning to droop, breathing getting deeper. The water bottle was carefully taken away when it began to tilt, as to not disturb her. When she softly started snoring, the creature delicately wrapped a tiny protuberance around her head and observed her dreams. The slightest probing brought forth the cause of her tears, and all her other woes. When it knew all it needed to, it hived off a portion of itself, which then divided and divided again, each time producing miniature versions of its heaving bulk. The tiny horror beasts then set off in various directions, moving like extremely quick and motivated slugs. Alone again with it’s ward, the creature gave out a small, pleased gurgle of satisfaction. It settled itself and made a motion oddly reminiscent of a nanny dusting off her apron. Leaving a small part of its consciousness active to monitor the sleeping child, the Lovecraftian fiend began its own hibernation cycle, content in the knowledge that it would take excellent care of the girl, and its drones would brutally eviscerate all of her problems. -NG
Pure evil
my regular inability to sleep has led me to take a break from my usual evil to make this quick-ish sketch of a certain CEO of a certain company that im sure are taking credit for insomnia now. “Today i think we’ll take credit for, not being able to sleep when you have to be up at 6am, having to draw hands, and Spotify ads”
