Today is an anxious day.
I follow two guys that climb Mt. Everest regularly - one operates a climbing/guide company and the other is a climber + a photographer. I discovered them in 2016 with the “Everestnofilter” hashtag and got hooked. They attempted to climb in 2016 with no supplemental oxygen, which is TERRIFYING to think about, and have tried again the past 2 years with oxygen as well as without.
Anyway... they’re working on climbing Everest this year from two different routes. Cory and his partner are climbing a totally new route and Adrian is leading a rapid ascent team up the North face route. They started out for their respective summit pushes this morning, which means that this is it.
I am always terrified that something horrible is going to happen to them, so if you’re into this kind of thing, send some positive thoughts to Everest and to these guys because they a MILLION PERCENT can use them.

The high Himalaya are always associated with testing the limits of human endurance. Here, Adrian Ballinger walks us through their base camp at 15,000 feet above sea level beneath Ama Dablam. His expedition guiding company, Alpenglow Expeditions, works to balance the hard work and suffering that inevitably happens on the high peaks with comfort down at base camp.

Raise your game, skip the queues and scale the world's highest peak in 42 days: that's British guide Adrian Ballinger's ambitious pitch to climbers preparing to summit Mount Everest. Ballinger's "Rapid Ascent" programme, which at around $79,000 is roughly double the cost of other Everest expeditions, aims to overturn the conventional wisdom that it takes 10 weeks to reach the top of the 8,848-metre (29,029-foot) peak. "The best way to climb Everest is to do it fast -- spend less time hanging around at base camp and avoid the queues as you approach the summit," Ballinger told AFP from his home in Squaw Valley, California. "People are going to be in stronger shape for the summit push, since they won't have spent two months going up and down the mountain to acclimatise, losing weight and muscle in the process," Ballinger said.
