Oh my goodness yes to your two recent thought processes! How are they ever going to do these things? Also, I'm totally with you on the comments about gil. I know they could do it so believably if they choose to include that and so I'm looking forward to it so much. Oh ggf whatever are you doing to us!?! :)
@adrielwho, I’m sorry that it took me almost a week to respond. I completely forgot about it! Please forgive me.
I know exactly what you mean!
(SPOILERS FOR ANNE OF THE ISLAND)
I’m actually thinking that Gil is going to get into a car crash. What I’m also wondering is how we find out about it/the modern version of him getting sick (typhoid fever). On one hand, I’m thinking we’re going to find out via Twitter from Jane, who’s going to find out about it from Mr. and Mrs. Blythe because one, she’s known Gil forever, and two, is one of Gil’s best friends. On the other hand, I’m thinking that for the time being that Gil is sick, they’ll either guess Gil’s Twitter username or put in his email address and then change the password so they can use it to update the community (and extended family) about Gil’s condition. … Although now that I think about it, I’m not so sure that the latter one is as realistic.
As for the whole Ruby thing, at least in my mind, I can’t imagine someone getting sick in December in this day and age and not seeing a doctor about it for five months or so. So what I’m thinking is that if it’s pneumonia, it might happen during Spring Break, Ruby will think it’s a cold (and it really will be just a cold at that point), but then Ruby goes back to school, continues on schoolwork, has finals, and then finally comes home for Summer Break about 1.5-2.5 months later (depending on when Spring Break is and when the school year ends). And in this scenario, in my mind, Ruby comes over to Green Gables to hang out with Anne, and it just so happens, by coincidence, a few minutes later, Gil, Jane, and Diana have come to hang out with Anne too. So it becomes a big friend-group hangout.
However, once everyone says hello to each other and has seen Ruby, it quickly (especially to Gilbert) becomes clear that something is definitely wrong with Ruby. Like beyond, startling wrong. Essentially, long story short, they figure out that Ruby has symptoms of pneumonia and they pretty much all try to convince her to go to the hospital. And in my mind, the argument that either wins her over or at least hesitantly convinces her to go along with her friends’ plan, is when someone essentially says, “Of all the people in this room, Gil is the closest thing we have to a doctor. If Gil says you need to go to the hospital, you need to go to the hospital.” (Or Gil saying to Ruby, “There are no ifs, ands, or buts about this. You’re going to the hospital. NOW.”) And then all of them marching her downstairs, piling into a car, and heading to a hospital in Regina, where she ends up being put in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and eventually dies there.
If it’s not pneumonia, then I’m thinking it’s cancer - like ovarian cancer, or some kind of cancer or illness where you don’t know you have it until it’s already in its advanced state. Then that would make sense why all the Gillis’ ignore it for so long … because they can’t even see it. They can’t even tell that she has it!
Oh, I forgot to mention that you know that time that Anne’s away during the Gilbert thing? I’m thinking she’s with the Irving’s like she is in the book, but in this modern adaptation, either the Irving’s don’t get Internet reception where their summer cottage is or they actively decided against having Internet reception there.
(SPOILERS OVER)
Sorry for the long drawn-out ramble! In any case, yes, I can’t wait for this to occur and to see how GGF tackles it!
Happy Birthday to adrielwho!
Hey! You still thinking of developing stuff under the tag "message for the Cuthbert family"? I think we should! Or did you dream up a new tag since you posted? Thanks for bringing up the idea!
Hi!
Unless someone has a better idea, I think the tag “message for the Cuthbert family” would be a pretty good tag. It’s free of posts right now (I checked it as you’ve suggested it ^^) and it shows that your messages are not only for Anne but also for Marilla and in memory of Matthew.
No problem! I thought it would be nice to do something together :)
