When I'm rewatching anne with an e and I have to pause every 10 minutes and go threw the cycle "pause, cringe, remember it's from ptsd, cry, press play"

On my like 10th rewatch of Anne with an E and ive just noticed something:

Gilbert meets Winifred and is immediately interested with her, finding her funny and sweet the more time he spends with her, which is what drives him to believe he could live out his life with her.

But i don’t think enough focus is placed on the circumstances of their first meeting on screen- Gilbert comes across Winifred talking to the model skeleton as she dusts it; his first impression of her is that she is playful and has an imagination.

This in my opinion is deliberate as one of annes main traits is her playfulness and her imagination (I’m pretty sure the word imagination is the most said word in annes entire vocabulary), and therefore makes the link from Winifred to Anne in Gilbert’s brain. We know he took notice of her due to her striking difference from the other girls in their class, who are all marriage driven and composed in the presence of boys, with her wild and passionate attitude to life and the world around her.

While courting Winifred he enjoys her company, however is intimidated by the more upper class way that she composes herself, which hides away the more imaginative part of her.

Gilberts decision to reject Winifred is based from his realisation that he is much more infatuated with Anne, and that he has looked for her in the multiple parts of Avonlea as well as winifred herself.

He realises that Winifred isn’t the person for him because their courtship began with the thought of Anne.

Wholesome fictional men who would absolutely handle Zade Meadows with extreme prejudice:

Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird): Quiet moral authority, unshakeable integrity, and a man who stands up for the vulnerable. He’d dismantle Zade with words first… then, if needed, ensure justice is served the old-fashioned way.

Gilbert Blythe (Anne of Green Gables): Patient, supportive, and the definition of healthy devotion. He’d look at Zade’s version of “romance,” decide it was an abomination, and make sure it never happened again.

Mr. Knightley (Emma): Straightforward, respectful, and the king of calling out bad behavior while still being a gentleman. Zade would not survive one of his pointed lectures, let alone the follow-through.

Peeta Mellark (The Hunger Games): Soft-spoken, genuinely kind, and the opposite of possessive toxicity. He’d clock the stalking and manipulation immediately and protect the woman involved with quiet steel and zero dark-romance vibes.

Samwise Gamgee (The Lord of the Rings): Loyal, pure-hearted, garden-loving, and fiercely protective of the people he cares about. He’d see Zade’s behavior, call it what it is, and go full “you’re not touching her” hobbit rage with a frying pan and zero hesitation.

Steve Rogers / Captain America (MCU): Embodies respect, consent, and “I can do this all day” protectiveness. Zade’s entire personality is everything Steve fights against. One shield throw later and the problem is solved.

Ted Lasso: Relentlessly optimistic, kind to a fault, and allergic to toxicity. He’d try the “be a better man” speech first… then, when that failed spectacularly, the football (and the rest of the team) would get involved.

These are the guys who treat women like actual people, value consent and safety, and have zero patience for the “I stalked you because I love you” brand of darkness. In a crossover, Zade wouldn’t last a chapter.

1985 Gilbert Blythe. The new one has his charms but really there can be only one and it’s this guy:

The tall, sweet, smart and totally head over heels Gilbert Blythe. My grandmother & I watched that whole series together - on her VHS player - and it imprinted on my brain forever.

I swear, the lead in Love Begins in the World of If has his vibes. It’s uncanny.
