First Fight
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Adrien felt his irritation rise even as he knew that she had a point. "Kagami-"
"I don't like coming second, Adrien! You know that!" Kagami reminded him. There was a desperate edge to her voice that she hated but couldn't quell.
His brow furrowed in anger, guilt, and fear. Anger at this impasse they found themselves at. Guilt at being the cause of Kagami's doubt. Fear at being unable to move forward.
Adrien didn't like it when Kagami was upset. Where his anger was like a flame that flared up temporarily before fading her's was a persistent frost. Her passion and persistence were traits that he greatly admired.
Ironic, that those qualities would cause him so much trouble.
It had started out so well! Adrien remembered their first date. Sneaking away from their studies to go to the Jardin des Tuileries and just stroll like normal teenagers.
Adrien remembered that day so vividly.
The feel of his hand in her's, the sun kissing his skin, the shine in her eyes. The way his heart beat a little bit faster as they exchanged phone numbers.
The thrill at the possibility of being caught faded until it was just them. Basking in each other's company.
He couldn't help the compliment that left his lips at the sight of her smile. And she couldn't help the blush that colored her cheeks at the praise.
Adrien remembered the feeling so vividly. Contentment.
Then came the akuma attacks.
Running off without reason, half-hearted excuses, and showing up late took their toll on Kagami's patience.
He couldn't use his hectic schedule as an excuse like he did with Nino because she knew it as well as he did. Adrien had made sure of it. Kagami's own schedule was equally packed yet she managed to show up on time.
Their already limited interactions were chipped away by late arrivals and canceled plans.
Adrien tried to make up for it with video chats and late night texting but it wasn't the same.
Kagami, worried, asked if there was something wrong. He had denied it. That was a mistake.
She knew him too well for that to appease her. She saw the way his smile was a bit too forced. She heard his too fast breath, as though he'd been running. She felt the tremble in his body he couldn't quite quell as the thought overtook him:
I'm ruining it.
But Kagami was not one to leave a challenge unconfronted.
"You're not second!" Adrien denied. Shock and guilt pooling in the pit of his stomach. "You're... You're one of the most important people to me."
"There is something you're not telling me Adrien." Kagami pointed out. "If there is something so important that you have to leave suddenly... I would like to know what it is."
Adrien looked down as dread filled him. "I can't... I can't tell you."
Kagami stared at the defeated slouch of his shoulders. "... Why?"
"It..." Adrien searched for the right words his hand reaching up to the base of his neck. "It's not... It's not for me to share." He looked up beseechingly at her.
"This... secret of your's," Kagami thought aloud. "It affects more people than just you?"
Adrien nodded dejectedly.
"And... It's important? To you? To them?"
"Y-yes."
"... I don't understand."
Adrien's heart pounded in his ears. "I... I can't explain. I want to but... I don't know how."
A thought occurred to Kagami. "Adrien... Is this secret more important than being honest with me?"
He didn't want to answer that. He didn't want to answer that! "Y-" He swallowed. "Yes." He breathed.
Kagami stepped closer to him and Adrien tensed at her proximity. She took his hand. "Okay."
Adrien blinked. Surely he heard wrong? "Wh-what?"
Kagami gently squeezed his hand reassuringly. "Okay." She repeated.
Adrien's eyes widened. "But- I- Honesty is important for relationships to work!" He protested.
"You are being honest," Kagami pointed out. "As honest as you can be. Oof!"
Adrien wrapped her in a tight hug, his face buried in her shoulder. "I'm sorry I made you feel like you weren't important to me."
Kagami blinked back the moisture in her eyes as she returned his embrace. Her thoughts drifted to Ryuko. "We all have secrets we can't share."
They stayed that way for a while. Simply letting the other know that they weren't going anywhere.
Eventually Kagami pulled back to look Adrien in the eye. "You have to tell me when this thing of your's comes up."
Adrien nodded. "I will!"
"And you can't give that shower excuse anymore." She won't have it.
"But it's my best one!" He pouted.
"My boyfriend does not stress shower." Kagami stated matter-of-factly. "If you must, you may use me as an excuse with your friends."
Adrien turned bright red. "Y-you!?"
"Yes. Alya and Nino are always running off for one reason or another. I don't see why we can't do the same."
Adrien made a whining sound in the back of his throat as the red reached his ears. He cleared his throat. "Maybe, not quite as often as Alya and Nino."

Adrien stood inside the wardrobe packing his fencing clothing into his barrel bag while smiling during that task, which the kwami of destruction Plagg observed from the inside of Adrien’s jacket.
“You look happier today. What are you and Kagami planning to do after the homework?”
“We’re going afterward together with Luka, Nathaniel and Ivan to see a concert from MCR,” Adrien answered. “Nathaniel and Luka said they used to listen to their music when they were younger and the group split up at one point and came back together now”
“Okay and is Kagami allowed to go out with you this late?”
“It’s not that….well it’s after the 22, but we won’t be all alone and my father sent the bodyguard with us, so Kagami’s mother shouldn’t feel bad about it. At least I hope it”
“Does her mother actually mind, she’s dating you?”
“Good question” Adrien answered closing the bag and put it over his shoulder. “I don’t know if Kagami has ever told her mother anything about us dating”
“Maybe you need to ask her that since you’re going to be there at the Tsurugis. You know….to avoid conflicts”
“You mean like I tell I’m her boyfriend or something and she gets mad, cause Kagami didn’t tell it yet?” The blonde asked earning a nod from the kwami. “Well Mrs. Tsurugi got last time akumatized, because Kagami disobeyed her by participating along with Marinette on the friendship game hosted by the TV1”
“Exactly, you two better talk about it, unless Kagami already cleared things with her mother, which is unlikely to happen due to her cold strictness,”
“We’ll see,” Adrien said heading to the exit of the wardrobe, where he came across Kagami Tsurugi, the skillful fencer girl of his class and also his girlfriend, which was typing on her smartphone a message to someone. Kagami stuck her smartphone back inside the pocket of her jacket, then Adrien slowly approached the girl, that looked forward at some classmates leaving other afterschool activities and Adrien placed his hands in front of Kagami’s eyes closing the sight.
“I know it’s you, Adrien” Kagami spoke, making the blonde chuckle and remove his hands from the girl’s face and she looked back at him to see him smile enamored at the girlfriend, which nudged him on his nose. “Our ride is down there waiting for us”
“Okay” Adrien responded walking along with the blue-haired girl out of the school court heading to the red Sedan of the Tsurugi clan, which opened the back door automatically for the two teens to enter into the vehicle.
“Kagami, can I ask you something?” Adrien asked while pulling the seat belt on as the girl did beside him.
“Go on”
“Does your mother know, that we two are…..you know….dating?” The teeny model asked looking at Kagami, who shook her head. “Will she say something about it?”
“I don’t know it, Adrien. I’m afraid, she forbids me to be with you or worse”
“We’ve been together for months. Aren’t you afraid your mother finds it out somehow else like through magazines, radio or TV?” Questioned the French boy earning a nod from the girl.
“I’m afraid to tell her that by myself. Mostly her reaction”
“What about we two talk to her together?” Suggested the boyfriend looking at Kagami, which rolled her eyes down thinking about his idea.
“We could give it a try, but I can’t assure you, she’s going to act well”
“We will see it, if she starts acting bad, I’ll try to calm her down as good as I can”
“I hope you really can do that” Kagami confessed placing her hand over Adrien’s, thereafter Adrien looked at his girlfriend, which looked a little sad about their plan afterward he grabbed her hand pulling it closer to him to gently peck it.
“I promise” Adrien whispered looking at the Japanese girl.
Later the two arrived at a great house in a nearly Asian-style and the vehicle stopped in front of the building to drop the two teenagers, which walked together at the entrance passing over the three steps at the main entrance of the house. The blue-haired teenager opened the door, entering along with the blonde to enter into the house, landing in the corridor, where they immediately encountered Tomoe Tsurugi awaiting the two with crossed arms, making Adrien swallow hard as he encountered his girlfriend’s mother.
“Good afternoon mother, I….Adrien Agreste is here, so we can work on our homework together. Is it still okay?” Kagami questioned watching her mother still keep her straight serious facade, making even Adrien feel a little cowed by her appearance.
“He seems a little timid today, did a cat bite your tongue today?” Tomoe Tsurugi asked, making Adrien shake his head.
“Sorry Ma’am, I…. I’m just astonished by….those high heels?” Adrien said a little unsure, seeing under the dark glasses of the older woman an eyebrow raise up in confusion.
“Didn’t you have something special to say to my mother, Adrien?” Kagami asked looking at Adrien, which was notable for Kagami, that he was feeling a little nervous around her mother.
“What is it?” The woman questioned, then Adrien grabbed Kagami’s hand tightly moving his head around the location before he started to talk.
“I and Kagami have been lately spending a lot of time together and….I would love to know if it is alright for you, that Kagami and I are….uhm going out steady?”
“What exactly are you meaning with you two are going out steady?” Mrs. Tsurugi asked furrowing her eyebrows as Adrien moved his head at Kagami, seeing Kagami gulp a little nervous about her mother’s reaction.
“We’re d….dating mother” Kagami added seeing her mother raise her eyebrows up in shock at the revelation of her daughter.
“You’re what?!?” Tomoe shouted. “Who gave you the permission to date a boy?”
“He’s a very good friend mother….he...we would never treat me bad” Kagami spoke frightened from her own mother, which Adrien felt due to her tension.
“You’re too young to date, young lady. Your objectives are the school and the fencing lessons, not any silly relationships with a boy, no matter if it’s Gabriel’s son or the son of an ambassador” “We’re not in a silly relationship Mrs. Tsurugi. My love for her is real, I swear. I only want the good for her,”
“You’re not her legal guardian, that’s my task. I am the one, who knows, what’s good for her and what not and you young man, you are not suitable for my daughter, ”
“Why not, I’m always there for your daughter to talk with when things aren’t going well. I help her up and cheer her up when she’s feeling down and unappreciated. Both as a friend and a boyfriend”
“I don’t care. I already told you, you’re not suitable for Kagami...”
“But Adrien doesn’t do anything wrong mother. He treats me right, he doesn’t distract me from school nor anything else.” Kagami implied while Adrien nodded at the conversation between the Tsurugi’s.
“I even preferred to talk with you about this, Mrs. Tsurugi. We didn’t want to keep our relationship a secret for so long,”
“How long have you two been together?” Tomoe questioned. “And that behind my back!?!”
“We’ve been together for only five months. We’re almost sixteen, we know what’s right and what’s wrong” Adrien mentioned seeing Mrs. Tsurugi growl at the comment.
“Five months?!?!”
“Uh?” Adrien replied backing off a little along with Kagami, which was gazing at her mother a little shocked, but not surprised about the reaction.
“You were together for all this time and no one of you ever mentioned a single thing to me about it?!?!”
“Wh...why should I if you would act like that?” Kagami asked carefully, then Tomoe raised her hand up in the air, affrighting Kagami which closed her eyes and Adrien stepped in front of the girlfriend getting slapped instead by Kagami’s mother on his face, yelping.
“Adrien, why did you do that?” Kagami asked as she watched the boyfriend pass his hand over his face, where the woman had hit him.
“Not even my father would raise his hand like that on me,”
“That’s sad, cause you really miss having some of it” Tomoe claimed making Kagami flinch in anger at her mother.
“He just wanted to defend me. Why are you treating him as if he was a bad guy?” Kagami asked loud making her mother surprised at her reaction.
“That’s not the right tune for a young lady to talk with the mother”
“Mother, you’re also not behaving correctly. He’s just trying to be friendly with you and show you the Adrien I fell in love with” Kagami mentioned holding the boyfriend on the shoulder.
“Kagami, I’ve got enough of your deviations. Go up in your room. You’re grounded!” The mother hissed. “Now!”
“You’re alright?” Kagami asked, then the mother grabbed the blonde on the arm pulling him away from her daughter.
“You’re coming with me” The mother demanded, pushing the boy forward and walk with the help of her bokken at the door while holding the boy on the shoulder.
Soon as the two approached the car, the door opened up by itself automatically and Tomoe placed her cane next to the car.
Adrigami Week Day 6: Obligations
@mlshipfleet
A distant rumble mingled with the sound of screaming drew Kagami’s attention away from the menu with a small sigh.
Across the table, Adrien’s kneed jiggled anxiously, ringed finger drumming against the tablecloth as he pretended not to notice the sounds of the battle going on outside.
“It was nice out, today,” Adrien said as a burning tire rolled past the window. “Very...humid. And warm...but not too warm, you know?”
“You want to go out there and help, don’t you?”
“No no; Carapace and Rena Rouge said they would cover for me tonight,” Adrien said, taking a nervous sip of his water. “I’m fine; totally-”
“Adrien-”
“We are not going to postpone your birthday dinner,” Adrien insisted. “...for the fourth time.”
“Adrien, there is a bloody dragon rampaging through downtown Paris-”
“And Ladybug is more than equipped to handle it without my help,” Adrien said, shaking his head. “She’s gotten on fine without me in the past; I can’t imagine she would need me now.”
“If you say so,” Kagami said, eyes returning to her menu even as she was painfully aware of her boyfriend’s fidgeting across the table. A few, tense moments of silence passed before Kagami closed her menu with a small sigh. “Go.”
“Kagami-”
“Your teammates are getting knocked around like footballs in a World Cup,” Kagami said, trying a reassuring smile. “Go; I’ll be here when you’re done.”
Adrien glanced between Kagami and the battle going on outside, chewing his lip as he mulled it over for a second. “...I’ll make it quick.”
“I’m sure you will,” Kagami said, leaning up into a hurried kiss on the cheek as Adrien darted out of the building. She watched him run into a side-street, disappearing as Chat Noir vaulted over the rooftops as he headed towards the battle in progress.
“More wine, mademoiselle?”
“Leave the bottle,” Kagami said, draining the rest of her drink in one long pull.
“Hoshi dake...ga mitsumeteru kanasii yoru ni wa…” Kagami sung under her breath, words slurring ever so slightly as she fumbled for her house keys. “Jibun wo tashikame takute kimi ni kuchiduke shit...shit...shit/”
The problem with being able to afford all the wine she could drink was that there was nothing stopping Kagami from drinking all the wine she could afford. And after the akuma battle raged on long past Adrien’s food had gone cold, Kagami had acquainted herself more than a few long-necked beauties as the city burned down around her. After living in Paris for most of her life, the threat of Hawkmoth’s temper tantrums had worn off, so she thought nothing of carrying Adrien’s dinner home in a doggy bag, humming under her breath as she wobbled down the streets lined with burning cars.
“Habataku tori no youni...kagayaki no naka de…” Kagami sang as she kicked the door open. “Kaze ni nare~!”
The empty silence of their townhouse greeted her as she wobbled through the front door, shucking her shoes and shooting her reflection a dirty glare. “What’s with that bitter frown on your face, punk? Don’t tell me...you resent your boyfriend for running off to save the city every other day? Jealous that his work makes him miss your birthday? Tch...ungrateful little brat…”
Letting out a deep sigh, Kagami, stumbled up the steps, already anticipating the hangover that would follow in only a few hours. Passing her bedroom, Kagami cracked open the takeout box, gnawing on the corner of Adrien’s steak as she nudged the trap to the skylight open. In the distance, she could see the last gasp of a dragon akuma as it vanished, a wave of brightly colored ladybugs washing over the city.
“Woo,” Kagami said sarcastically, tearing off a piece of Adrien’s steak as she settled back in a deck chair. “And so...once again...the day is saved…”
Even the taste of lukewarm filet mignon wasn’t enough to quell the kicked puppy feeling that creeped up on Kagami as she waited for her boyfriend to return home. Having grown up on missed birthdays and cancelled plans, Kagami thought that her adult relationships would be free of eating dinner by herself.
Unfortunately, her significant other was a superhero.
“Heyyyyy.”
Speaking of which…
Kagami tilted her head backwards, steak hanging out of her jaws as she saw Chat Noir standing behind her, a sufficiently guilty look on his upside down face. “You...are late.”
“You are drunk,” Chat Noir laughed sitting cross legged next to her chair. “You get home okay?”
“No...sadly I perished on the way home,” Kagami muttered through a mouthful of meat. “You are speaking with a hungry and angry spirit.”
“Is there anything I can do to appease this angry spirit?” Chat Noir asked, laying his chin on the chair beside her. “...I’m sorry.”
“I know,” Kagami said, resting a hand on his head.
“You know I don’t mean to keep cancelling on you like this,” Chat Noir muttered. “It’s just-”
“You have an obligation to the people of this city,” Kagami sighed. “I can’t resent you for that…”
“Really?” Chat Noir said, sitting up. “Not even a little?”
“...well, maybe just a touch,” Kagami said, chewing on the corner of her lip. “It’s not...it’s not you...I just resent that I can’t seem to have a normal date with my boyfriend without the city ripping you away from me.”
“I know,” Chat Noir sighed. “Trust me; I know how much it sucks to have your loved ones bail on you for work...and I may have an obligation to this city but...I have an obligation to you too.”
Chat Noir raised her hand, kissing the back of it as he looked up at her.
“The only obligation you have is to end this fight however you can,” Kagami said, running a hand through his hair. “If the worst I can say about you is that you’re too devoted to the well-being of others, then I suppose I’m luckier than a great many people.”
“Kagami-”
“I’ll sleep much easier when Hawkmoth isn’t derailing my birthday plans anymore,” Kagami said, leaning in and kissing her boyfriend on the forehead. “I have half a mind to run after you next time if only to vent my frustration…”
“Well...funny you should mention that,” Chat Noir said, reaching behind his back. “I know I already got you the necklace, but...well, I figured I should get you something to go along with it.”
“If this is you proposing, you might want to wait until I’m sober...and not loaded with steak,” Kagami giggled as Chat Noir held out a smooth, octagonal box.
“I actually had another proposition in mind,” Chat Noir said, cracking the case open and revealing an ornately crafted necklace. “How would you like to spend some more quality time together?”
“I have to say, Chat, your girlfriend is…enthusiastic,” Ladybug said, wincing as the newly minted Red Ryu drove her blade into the wall next to a terrified akuma’s head, eyes glinting with manic glee.
“I hope you’re watching, Hawkmoth,” Red Ryu said, teeth glinting as she dragged her sword down the wall next to the Akuma’s cheek. “Because I want you to know the face of the woman who’s going to rip your Miraculous off your trembling body and expose you as the charlatan you really are!”
“She’s got a lot of pent up anger to work out,” Chat Noir said as the akuma frantically ripped its object off, throwing it down and running away with Red Ryu hot on its heels. “...a lot.”

Adrigami Week 1
Day 1: Fencing
Well, better late than never. Here’s my garin of sand for Adrigami Week and I gotta say that I have always pictured Kagami betting with Adrien over fencing. And Adrien losing most of the time hehe. Just a little headcannon.
It’s my first time ever drawing Kagami so I hope I made her justice. Also, Adrien´s hair is a pain in the ass to draw.
Hope you like it!
