21. How and when did you get introduced to smut fic? Any horror stories?

HAH. You know, how I got introduced to smut fic is kind of a funny story in itself.

My experience with fic in fandom went like this: 1. [gets introduced to webcomic Hanna Is Not a Boy’s Name] 2. [reads a few random HINaBN fics on ffn.net] 3. [writes self-insert fanfic with irl friends] 4. [becomes forlorn when HINaBN unexpectedly stops updating] 5. [slowly gives up on that fandom; shifts attention to Merlin fandom] 6. [reads only canon verse gen fic. no smut, no pairings, no AUs.] and finally

7. all of that pickiness falls apart.

Basically, I’d found this really long reclist. I hardly knew any of the general terminology for fic, just the difference between canon and AU.

so i was going down this reclist and I believe the format was something like this:

Title by Author, wordcount, canonSummary

and sometimes there would be (pwp) either up by the genre or somewhere in the summary, idk. well. i had no fucking clue what that meant, I just saw “canon” and went “YAY.”

it took me a horribly long time to catch on???? like i kept reading these pwps and thinking “wow, they get to the sex really fast in this one, don’t they?” but i still didn’t put it together. i mean, there were other kinds of fics in between all the pwps, but still! i read through soooo many of them before i finally looked up what “PWP” stood for and went “PORN WITH PORN. OH MY GOD THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW.”

i gave up on avoiding explicit content after that, and then i gave up on skimming over those parts in longer fic. and and some point i read a modern au where Merlin was Arthur’s PA 

BUT. I’ve managed to stumble across mostly good porn, so I don’t have…OH WAIT, NO. I LIED. FIGGING. I NEVER NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT THAT WAS? 

oh lol and i have read some porny fics from other fandoms specifically because I’d heard they were traumatizing and I was curious. examples: the infamous milk fic, and one for Bee Movie. (I can elaborate on that if someone asks, but I won’t do that to anyone without consent first.)

man, i’ve never even come close to having sex and never really intend to, but i’m pretty sure i could explain so many kinks and define so many words to my sexually active friends, they would be stunned and possibly scarred.

hahah, i agree, it would be really cool to write/read. i’ll keep it in mind if i ever manage to find myself in need of something new to write! so probably not anytime soon lol
