I hate grad school. I keep trying to tell myself that in a year I'll have my msw & be on my way to obtaining licensure. But I still hate it and it's all awful.

I got accepted into my first (and only haha) choice of graduate schools, and into the most competitive track. Fuck yeah. I am so stoked and nervous about how much work I have ahead of me, but I am mostly just looking forward to getting my brain back into school mode- I really loved my junior year but my senior year was so consumed with senioritis and wanting to just go ahead and move to richmond already that I wasn't nearly as engaged as I should have been. I'm ready to make the most out of my last year of school (until phd time anyway) and absorb as much social justice and clinical know-how as my brain can handle. Not ready for all of the papers and reading though. Buh. Also can I just say how much I HATE people who are not my parents or mentors saying they're proud of me? I'd be hard-pressed to think of a more condescending thing to say to a peer. I know it's coming from a good place, but jesus.
Starting grad school apps . . . . ... .. . ..

will i need another dumb summer job next year? will my program start in the summer or fall? where am i gonna live? how will i have money?
Y IS ADVANCED STANDING SO COMPETITIVE
1 YEAR MASTERS LIKE WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS PATH
sos
What school are you applying to that you need an interview for?
Salem State. Only the Advanced Standing Track needs an interview. They also have a three years paid pre BSW work experience, or one year post BSW paid work experience requirement. Which is a strike against me because I only have it if you combine overlapping years doing two completely different jobs. I am hoping that and the fact that I work full time (which no one else who is going for it from my BSW program does) helps me out.
Where it’s a state school, it is A LOT cheaper than the comparable in the state (Simmons, BU, BC, etc). So between people wanting to save money, and the fact that their application requires the above (other schools don’t have work requirements), it is seen as harder to get into than the private schools.
I couldn’t justify the money for a private school. Though Simmons has a trauma focused program which would be amazing. But I just couldn’t.
Interviews start this Friday. Then then start up again on again the second week of January through the end. It’s about a half hour interview. I can’t find anyone who applied last year to know what they ask. :/
And my MSW application saga continues..
We had to schedule our interview online. So the spots actually increased to 22 for interviews, and I have another friend who got one but who's name is not up, so that means 23. If not more. The good news is that said friend told me not everyone who applied even got an interview.
It appears that of all the current BSW seniors from my school applying, I am the ONLY one not currently doing my internship at DCF. Literally six of them are. Part of me wishes I had done mine at DCF, because they learn so much and it's really comprehensive.
I know I said they only accepted a small handful. A peer was able to confirm that it is only 5 or 6 students they accept fir the advanced standing track. 20-25% chance of those of us who have interviews..
Since we could see names, I tried to see if I could find anyone on Facebook. I couldn't find everyone, but I found a regional supervisor for an agency, and then some other fancy title for another. My stomach dropped.
Experience wise, I know one of the girls I go to school with was an assistant director in a house for those with developmental disabilities.
My selling point for my experience is no doubt going to be that I have worked full time while in school. Yes, I don't have years of experience before school., which others probably do. But I am 22, so that is what it is. I also am getting some clinical experience at work and my internship, which I also hope helps.. I think they must give some sort of weight for a current student continuing at their school, too. And I just want this so damn bad!!!
My peer also told me that if you don't get into advanced standing, your application rolls over to be considered for regular admissions.
So, I'll cross the bridge when I get there. But I am currently nervous. I know when the time comes I'll be confident and fierce. Send good vibes my way!
My advanced standing MSW interview is set up for a month from Tuesday. There are 21 interview slots. I am nervous because my school only accepts a small handful of people ( I believe less than half) where it is competitive and cheaper than the private schools in the area, which makes it even harder to get into, than said private schools (Smmons, BU, etc). I know If I dont get in this year I definitely will next, but I want it so badly right now.
Did anyone else need to interview for their advanced standing program? If so what was asked? Thanks for any advice or input!!
