Officially an MSW!!! Ceremony was ridiculously long despite only being the school of social work graduation. Overall, it went well and really enjoyed my time when my good friend and his partner visited. Parents were fairly okay. Kitty was an absolute menace and kept me up most nights, but he's still cute.
Multiple people praised my presence in class, that my contributions and communication skills are next level. Also got asked if I would consider a PhD. Got the same feedback during undergrad and theology grad. Yet, still struggle to absorb it.
Would any of y’all be at all interested in it if I made a post detailing how Whitaker would’ve been an amazing social worker if he hadn’t been a doctor? I’m probably gonna post it anyway but 👀
It’s been three years since I graduated with my Masters Degree. Today, I was asked to become a supervisor for some interns that will be starting at my work this fall. I’m excited to take that on and help the next round of social workers get experience.
Being anti-AI/chatgpt in academic spaces is already making me feel insane, and it's week 2 of grad school. "I just use it to come up with ideas for the paper" "I just use it to format the paper" bro thats like half the work. That is how you LEARN is to brainstorm ideas then try to figure out what works. Trying a format and maybe reformatting it later while editing to best articulate your point. Not only are you ruining your ability to learn and melting your brain, but in my opinion is this not just plain cheating?? Not even just plagiarism wise as in its impossible to cite all the sources AI pulls from but just in the sense you're asking something else to do the work for you. Feels like asking your dumb parent to do your math homework and they give you all the wrong answers.
I guess im just especially in shock because its making me feel like both "ohh you're just not up with the new technology, all the kids are using AI now and not learning how to critically think" and "okay we've got an SJW in the house look out! Ooh you actually care about citing real humans work and the environmental impact. Yeah we all just acknowledge the impact but I guess aren't doing anything about it."
Not only is there the contradiction, but we are in a fucking social work masters program. I'm going to lose my mind, social justice is literally part of what we're learning about here and how to take action on it. So it feels like oh excuuuuse me im actually following through with taking an ethical stance on something and matching that with behavior. And im using my own fucking brain to do it.
