Borderlands 3

Gearbox’s third installment is currently mired in multiple controversies: the firm has accused a former employee of using a company card to take family holidays and “get six pack abs”; the employee has responded by accusing Gearbox's CEO of taking secret illegal bonuses and leaving out a USB stick filled with pornography (yes, really). PC gamers are also outraged the game will appear on Epic’s store instead of Steam. But none of this matters: the really important question is: how many guns? The answer: a billion guns, 57 times the number of weapons in the last iteration, including guns that shoot explosive cheeseburgers! Early impressions are of a tightened up, souped-up Borderlands 2, which can only be a good thing.

Resident Evil 2

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC

This is the best kind of remake. Rather than lightly remaster 1998's version with new textures and effects, Capcom has re-made the game entirely for today's hardware. The result is a terrifying delight that looks incredible and plays better than ever thanks to a switch to the over-the-shoulder viewpoint first seen in Resident Evil 4. For anyone who loved the original, or didn't enjoy its awkward fixed camera angles, it's a great chance to revisit a genuine classic.
