Advent 2016 - Day 24 - Bulletproof
And the finale! It’s a bit late I’m sorry but Christmas eve had been stressing and I didn’t like anything of what I wrote then so I have started all over again to make the angst a bit more prominent.
Merry DL-6Mas everyone!!!
-It’s been, what, 15 years?
-15 years is a long time to wait... You can’t imagine how much I’ve suffered...
-And now... the perfect opportunity presents itself. At last I shall have my revenge!
There was only darkness. Pieces of memories. That sea, the boat, the gun he had carelessly taken into his hands after the shot was fired leaving his fingerprints all over it. The trial, that dork who forced himself upon him who had lost all hope, who wanted to defend him no matter how much he himself believed he deserved what had happened.
The nightmares of the past. An elevator, three people, two men arguing, a gunshot, a terrible scream. Then, darkness. One person dead. And it was his fault. He killed that man!
Back to the trial 15 years later. The dork defended him. And proved his innocence of that murder from the 24th of December 2016. But he was guilty... of that crime in the elevator. There had been no one else who could have killed Gregory Edgeworth besides him, the victim’s own son.
And then... relief. The dork managed somehow to present an unbelievable truth. It had not been him who had shot his dad but that monster who had raised him 15 years to form him into a perfect prosecutor who only cared about a perfect record. A perfect record which was destroyed by said dork who just proved his innocence in two murder cases. He couldn’t bear that humiliation and faked a suicide note to find a new way to live on after everything he had believed in for so long had been destroyed.
And then he woke up; and looked into the grinning face of Larry Butz.
“Hey, Egdey! No time to sleep! Today’s your biggest day! I hope you have not forgotten!?”
Edgeworth smiled a bit. How could he forget? It was time to leave the past rest, although he really asked himself why Wright had to decide for this to happen on such a terrible date. All the negativity of his life was connected to Christmas. And now he should get married on that same date.
“Come on!” Larry chimed. “It’ll be a great day. My plans are bulletproof!”
“They’re your plans... That can’t end well.” Miles sighed, got up, took a shower and then got dressed into a white tuxedo.
Time rushed, he barely noticed anything from the words the Judge spoke. Just something of a long way and many hardships.
“I know you wonder why I’ve chosen this day to marry you. You connect so many bad feelings with a date which is supposed to be a happy day. And this is the reason for my choice. I want you to have something happy to remember about this day as well. I want you to be happy.”
Miles could feel tears pricking at the corners of his eyes.
“Wright...” he whispered overwhelmed.
“No... it’s not ‘Wright’ anymore.” Phoenix denied with a shy grin.
“I... I know. I just wanted to say it one last time, Mr Edgeworth!” Miles said happily.
Both of them grinned and then they kissed. And all their friends cheered. Everyone had come to witness these two men get married. All those clients whose innocence Phoenix had proven and all friends they had met on their way. And the loudest were of course: Maya Fey, Trucy Wright, Dick Gumshoe Larry Butz and Kay Faraday.
The only one who shed a sad tear was Wendy Oldbag who, despite her age still seemed to be glued on every step Miles took.
