I got clocked in the face tonight while trying to get someone out of the bar and while I didn’t suffer any lasting injury it really hurt? and I’m still kind of in shock? I got a lot of pity tips though lmao. and here I was hoping it would be a slow shift since I feel like I’m coming down with a cold 🤷♂️
Day so far:
5 am: got up for work, took a shower, decided death would be better than this
7 am: get to work. Coworker bought me coffee because he's a sweetheart and it's my last day at work. He's the best.
10 am: get home after doing the Bloody Mary bar and immediately take an hour long nap
11 am: write for a bit and get a snack
1 pm: head back to work for second half of the day. Keep thinking it's like 7pm because of my nap and how early I got up.
3 pm: lunch. Sorta.
The other day at work someone ordered a bottle of cider and asked for a glass so I gave him an unbranded pint glass, the standard glass we use for bottled beers, and he said “no, like, a lady’s glass”. No joke I stared at him for a solid ten seconds then said very slowly “can you……define Lady’s Glass”. “Oh, you know, like, a glass for a lady!” I gave him a highball glass bc that’s the next largest glass we have and he seemed happy. I still have no fucking idea what a “lady’s glass” is. Straight people are fuckinf wild
This is not a martini. This is chilled vodka served up with a twist. You can enjoy chilled vodka served up with a twist! That’s fine! You should drink whatever you want! But a martini is a cocktail.
Now, you can argue perhaps that martini has become a way of drinking, as seen in something like an ‘espresso martini’ which contains no vermouth but is served in a martini glass. Language does change. But that example is still a cocktail, not just chilled espresso served up. There are ingredients.* Call it whatever you want in your own house (and playing around with barware on your own time is so fun, please do it.) However...
When things like this become popular I wait for them to trickle down and someone to order one from me. Usually I don’t care - I loved when sbagliatos had their day for example, that’s a glorious drink (and a nice upcharge 😎). But if you come to me in my dive bar arcade, fail to read the room, and order a ‘naked vodka martini’ as I am seeing this called you are going to be in for a shock, because I don’t have martini glasses. I don’t even have glass glasses! You are getting a chilled (and therefore diluted) double shot of Titos in a Pizza Hut cup, my friend, and you are paying 16 dollars for it. Enjoy.

I got an invite to a FB group (I only use FB for music events and service industry groups, in general) for ‘female bartenders’ and yes anyone read as female regardless of actual ID gets WAY more shit as a bartender than anyone perceived to be male. I get it. It’s nice to bitch about gross cishet dudes that hit on you. But “only rules are don't be a dick and don't have a dick” and like... I might be about to start some Drama
A guy in this party apparently lost his luggage on the flight to Colorado (he's from Canada) and he had a suit, but no shirt, shoes, or belt.
Guess how much he spent on replacements for those three items this afternoon.

Next week is my last week bartending, so or COURSE my boss decided to schedule me for two 14 hour shifts, and a 10 hour.
lately this small group of people have been coming into the bar about 40 min before closing, ordering several rounds of shots and not tipping on a single thing, and then having the audacity to ask if they could request a song. every time I tell them, this is an iPod and I do not have streaming. it does not sink in. once they even asked for the aux cable, as if that is a thing you can do in a bar! I’m not a touchtunes, I don’t take requests, and I’m definitely not taking one if you don’t tip me.
anyway I’ve been trying to find more and more objectionable (to their tastes anyway) music to chase them out as soon as they come in 😂 my other late night regulars are unphased by my music taste so this is pretty risk free. Wall of Voodoo did the trick last time. give me your suggestions and I’ll let you know how it goes lol
