At least once a semester, I am challenged by students to do hula hoop with them. I would like to say practice makes perfect. It does not.

Today was another lesson in humility.

So being a teacher I can't afford to buy as many books as I want so I often rely on donations or cheap book sales. I often get boxes of books so I don't have the time to go through every single one. A student brought this to me, Star Spangled Banana: historical riddles, and asked me to read it aloud. Only a few pages in and I find this gem. I say gem because I plan to use it to illustrate why jokes like this are not funny, ignorant, and highly offensive. Now to figure out how to scaffold lessons to help students reach understanding. #adventuresinteaching #civilrights #knowyourroots #knowyourworth
