Sometimes it happens … the dreaded writer’s block. In researching, I’ve found some suggestions on various websites that are pretty similar. So I compiled a few for you! ~ Move your body. Not just step away from the desk for coffee. Get outside. Hike. Run. Do yoga or karate. Dance. ~ Write early in the morning, when you FIRST wake up, not after getting lunches made and the kids to school. ~ Write while you sleep. Sometimes, if you work on a chapter for a few minutes (not 3 frustrating hours) before bed, your mind works it out for you while you sleep. You might see from a fresh perspective. ~ Do freewritting. Don’t worry about what you’re actually writing or if the grammar/punctuation is correct. The process trains your brain to tap into the words inside your head and gives them a place to live on your computer screen or journal. ~ Step away from whatever you’re writing and do anything that’s creative. ~ Set realistic goals and monitor the extent to which you achieve them. ~ Do social writing – write with others. ~ Create dedicated writing time – when writing is all you do.
