CONRAD REED 𝙿𝙻𝙴𝙰𝙳𝙴𝙳 : damn, you live like this?

REED  wasn't  supposed  to  be  here  .  𝐃𝐈𝐃  𝐇𝐄  𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓  𝐅𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐎𝐖  𝐇𝐈𝐌  𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊  𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄  ?  They  are  both  due  to  start  law  studies  next  term  -  HARVEY  knows  because  he  has  hoped  &&  prayed  that  CONRAD  / @advocatis isn't  going  to  GOTHAM  U  too  .

❝  Why  the  hell  do  you  do  this  ?   ❞  The  young  DENT  challenges  .     He  couldn't  take  this  anymore  just  how  much  has  this  freak  been  following  him  here  ,  watching  him  ?  The  house  is  turned  upside  down  as  it  always  is  .  Bottles  strewn  across  the  floor  ,  dried  patches  of  old  scotch  ,  dents  in  the  wall  .  Some  were  DAD'S  ,  some  were  HARVEY'S  …  some  were  𝐆𝐎𝐃  𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘  𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖𝐒  𝐖𝐇𝐎  .   DAD  ,  out  of  his  mind  on  liquor  ,  cheap  shots  from  the  casino  .  He's  only  thankful  he's  not  gotten  back  home  yet  .

❝  Why  can't  you  just  LEAVE  ME  ALONE  ?  _  NOT  EVEN  IN  MY  GOD  DAMN  FATHER'S  HOUSE  ?!   JESUS  CHRIST  !  What  is  your  problem  ?  ❞  Truth  was  there  wasn't  much  he  could  do  about  it  .  He  was  scared  to  death  ,  trying  to  mask  his  shaking  .  Either  the  other  boy  could  smack  the  words  off  of  his  lips  or  that  𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆  might  come  over  him  again  …  no  ,  no  …  he  won't  let  that  happen  .  He  can't  .

“ you  think  i  don’t  know  that? ”          incredulousness  is  a  second  language  to  jason   ( or  eighth  if  you  counted  the  rest  of  ‘em ),     and  he  wields  it  as  sharply  as  any  other  weapon.     as  sharply  as  he  wields  crafty  intellect  &  an  overwhelmingly  apparent  lack  of  self - preservation.     he  doesn’t  need  to  be  reminded  of  who  he’s  working  with,     or  the  risks,     or  the  probability  that  he’s  staring  down  a  high  likelihood  of  getting  stabbed  in  the  back.

literally.     and  repeatedly.

but  it’s  a  calculated  move  he’s  taken  more  than  once  and  he’s  confident  enough  in  his  ability  pull  himself  up  by  his  own  bootstraps  when  things  go  south,     just  like  he’s  done  a  thousand  times  before.          “ i  use  them,     they  use  me  @advocatis​.     circle  of  life. ”

his  finger  doesn’t  hesitate,     and  the  shot  echoes  through  the  space.

he  hears  the  threat  in  those  words,     hears  the  non - verbalized  promise  of  retribution  should  he  follow  through,     but  that  symphony  has  been  playing  on  repeat  for  the  last  several  years  and  hood  has  gotten  rather  good  at  tuning  it  out.     burying  it  under  his  own  melodies,     dark  and  grim  though  they  may  be  at  times.     he’ll  never  claim  his  hands  to  be  clean.     he’ll  never  even  call  it  justified.     but  what  it  is,     sometimes,     is  necessary.

still.     in  the  long  seconds  of  silence  which  follow,     drawn  out  and  thick  with  tension,     eventually  it’s  broken  by  the  frustrated  wail  of  a  man  clutching  desperately  at  what  remained  of  his  shin  as  if  he  could  will  it  back  into  good  form.     very  solidly,     not  dead.

all  the  while,     red  hood’s  eyes   —   masked  as  they  are   —   never  leave  the  face  of  @advocatis​  standing  across  from  him.     the  motion  and  its  aftermath  carried  out  purely  by  instinct  and  entirely  lacking  any  necessity  for  line  of  sight  in  order  to  complete  the  task.

“ don’t  ever,     think  you  can  control  what  i  do  here. ”          a  voice  once  so  young,     once  so  light,     dragged  dark  &  low  by  this  presence  which  makes  attempts  at  thinking  it  can  guide  his  actions  in  any  other  direction  than  the  one  he  himself  intends.          “ this  is  my  city,     you  get  that?     my  home,     my  protection,     my  responsibility.     and  i’ll  handle  that  any  way  i  damn  fucking  please. ”
