Day 3: The A-East Scuffle
"We gotta come up with something, fast."
[2:34:56 PM] God: "Fuck off Noms! You take the jellies," he replied, mind racing. "My pins are all distance, it barely scratched the fuckers. I think they're resistant to long distance attacks-- I'll take the penguins. Gimme a shout if you need a heal, I got a cure drink psych in my pockets."
He turned his attention away from him again, letting loose with another flame attack. The penguin didn't go down in the first hit, but he hadn't expected it to--if Nommy's attack hadn't done so to his own popguin, he doubted his would either. A secone burst of fire, which was followed by the water bubbles from a swapped in Aqua Monster pin. "Shit, I need better pins..." It was half observation, half prayer ad hope that these bastards would drop something decent.
"Using lightning!" he half shouted over his shoulder, a warning before the next psych was unleashed. A popguin fizzled out into static before vanishing, but the other, though it fell, got back to its feet before launching into another belly slide.
As Godi turned away from him again, Nomura followed his advice: he went for the jellies. A smirk began to tug at his face as he brought his Keyblade to bear on the first wiggly mofo to cross his path--and he let loose a "HA!" as he launched his opening Shockwave at it. As before, the Dark Thing dashed in right after the distance attack, sucking Masamune's power through his Keyblade to deliver one slash, two, and an uppercut third. It was a damn good thing these jellies were slow; it allowed Nomura to sidestep-pivot out of the way as it tried to reach for him with its tendrils. The Keyblader used his turning momentum in his next attack, swinging Void Gear into the thing's backside-jelly. It dissolved into static, bringing a wider grin to Nomura's face.
Then he heard the word /lightning/, and the grin vanished from his face.
The Construct ducked, his free arm wraping over his eyes to block out the agonizing light. He could still feel and /smell/ the energy racing through the air, ozone burn singing the inside of his nose. He looked back at Godi as he felt the energy subside, blinking spots out of his sensitive eyes--just in time to see a J Popguin slide towards his partner.
He was too far away. Nomura let out a startled cry, tossed out his free hand, and channeled Pyrokinesis. The burst of fire consumed the penguin, turning it to static before it could collide with the god.
But he'd been too distracted. He hadn't seen the other J Popguin to his left drop onto its belly. It slammed into Nomura full force, knocking him off his feet. Painfully, he rolled over just in time to see the penguin readying for another slide.
"Godi--!" he croaked. "Heals!" [3:02:20 PM] God: A blast of fire took out the popguin before it could complete the attack, and then the cure drink was sent to Nommy; the god kept a watchful eye on the rest of the noise, counting. Only a small number of popguins of both types--three, maybe four at most--and two jellies. If they did this fast, maybe they could get to the next area.
"Ready?" he ased, though it was more a demand. "Let's see how fast we can get rid of these fuckers--"
And with that he launched into another attack, water followed by lightning and then another water. Vanitas wasn't aiming for any popguin in particular, just the group in general. The more he hit at once the merrier, as far as he was concerned; unfortunately even three successive uses of pins weren't enough as no one popguin was hit more than twice which meant he;d only maybe hit two popguins at most with three attacks. [3:23:22 PM | Edited 3:38:05 PM] Nommy aka Elf: Fuck he was /lucky/ Godi had that healing pin. Nomura leaped to his feet the moment he was physically able, bringing his Keyblade to bear and, without thinking this time, charging it once more with Masamune's energy.
Was he ready? Golden eyes flit over the remaining 6 Noise--two of each kind of penguin, and 2 more jellies. Shit yeah he was ready, but there was no use wasting breath in saying so. Sliding back into his one-handed attack stance did the job for him.
/Fucking lightning/ though. Nomura did his best to cover his eyes as Godi launched the attack, but it seared his corneas nonetheless. Didn't the god know that not only was Nomura /scared shitless/ of lightning, but it rendered his sight and smell nearly useless for the next few seconds?
But his adrenaline was pumping too fast. They were surrounded, only six enemies left, and it was down to the wire. A damage race; kill or be killed. He'd stopped thinking about /anything else/.
Focused as he was, Godi's lack of fatal blows struck a spark of anger in the Dark Thing. "Concentrate your fire," he growled under his breath. Better to kill them one at a time, that way there'd be fewer to try to kill /them/ as the battle wore on. Basically, they'd survive longer.
Nomura had noticed that the blue popguins tended to go down faster, so it'd be wise to concentrate fire on them first--but the crested penguins were still a problem; they, too, could belly-slide for some pretty nasty damage. He shot off a Cold Stare on one, flipped rapidly to Masamune only to realize it was still charging his Keyblade, then switched back to Cold Stare, attacking the second Electro Popguin with it. Both frozen in place gave him and Godi time to deal with the other threats, and hopefully keep the crested bastards from attacking their backs while they did.
"Finish the blues," he bit off, and rushed the nearest Jelly Madchester. They could only be taken out by melee attacks? Fine. Nomura flew at the first one head-on, Void Gear raised--but feinted to the left at the last second, swinging his Keyblade 'round and slicing into its soft body. The second Jelly Madchester wiggled his way, going for Nomura's exposed back as he attacked its fellow. Though his nose felt a bit singed from so much lighting in the air, his peripheral vision still worked dandy--and he swiveled just in time to meet outstretched tentacles, slicing two of them clean off the Noise's body. He felt more than saw the Jelly behind him shift, and shifted his weight about to pivot towards it again; the momentum of the swing gave it the same treatment as the first.
With both jellies half-disabled, he danced back a few steps, leering them down. They'd put themselves right next to each other in trying to kill him--morons. He channeled Masamune one more time, sending a Shockwave flying at both jellies. It knocked both of them back, but damnit--! Ranged attacks. Nomura didn't seem to give a shit: he charged and launched one more Shockwave, and letting out a feral yell, dashed back into the melee in its wake.
One of the jellies reached for him, but he ducked under its remaining tendrils to stab Void Gear straight into its body. It dissolved into a burst of static--just in time for the second Jelly to get its tentacles on Nomura's skin. He let out a choked yelp--/that was electricity/. Panic racing through him, he pivoted again, hurling his weight into his last swing, and nearly cleaved the final Jelly in half. It, too, dissolved.
He didn't look over at Godi to check on him, nor did he look over at the Electros--he was too busy fighting that surge of electricity for control of his limbs as the damned shit tried to paralyze him. "Godi--!" [3:41:56 PM] God: He had ignored him for the most part as they fought--two blues were all he needed to concentrate on right now. The first one went down after a solid three hits, but the second one was giving him trouble when Nommy called for him.
And he nearly stopped dead, because /fuck/,, cure drink /didn't heal status problems/. It only healed health, things like paralyzation weren't affected by it. "Fuck--it doesn;t affect stuff like paralyzed!"
Another fire attack took out the second J, and Vanitas turned to take out the two crested things while he tried frantically to think of a way to fix the problem--without letting his partner get attacked. [3:49:10 PM] Nommy aka Elf: It didn't--?
...on no.
"Hnggh--!" The electricity kept stealing over his limbs, freezing muscle after muscle. The muscles twitched violently as Vanitas tried, with every fiber of his /being/, to fight the paralysis...
...what if he just gave up? If he just let the effect overtake him? Would it wear off faster in tense muscles or relaxed ones? Which would win the day: fury, or patience?
Either way, he still had a little bit of movement left in him. He shifted his gaze over to one of the Electro Popguins, focused on the Pyrokinesis pin on his lapel, and channeled. And again. And again. Three bursts of telekinetic fire; that was all he had. Thank god the other was still frozen; the burned one wouldn't stay that way for long. And it was up to Godi to finish this one off.
Vanitas let his muscles go slack. The lightning attack stole over his muscles, sending his rigid form collapsing to the concrete. Miraculously, he managed not to knock his head on the pavement. Now all he could do was wait for the paralysis to wear off.
Guess it was Godi's turn to drag /his/ ass around. [3:58:39 PM] God: The god let his partner fall, aware that killing the thing was more important at the moment. He'd have more time to deal with the injury without the fucking penguin thing breathing down his neck. He mimicked the other's example, three blasts of fire, watching it burn into static and vanish.
A woosh of air left him, and Vanitas turned to Nommy, unsure what he could do other than drag his partner around. "Fuck, fuck--I don't have anything that'll heal it right now." So I'lll have to drag you around went unsaid but implied. (He made a mental note to find a pin that dealt with this sort of damage and obtain it right away.)
With no other choice, he maneuvered the other up onto his feetbefore managing to work him onto his back. "We're gonna get another healing pin soon as we find a place that has any." [4:02:41 PM] Nommy aka Elf: Nomura wasn't able to make any sound at this point--just a breathy wheeze. That would have to do for acknowledgment. He did his best to will his muscles to relax /completely/, praying that that would make the paralysis dissipate more quickly. And honestly, relaxing /hurt/ less; when he'd tried to fight it, it just strained his muscles, tensed them until they felt like they were twisting up.
Vanitas didn't want to stop. They'd cleared the Noise in this area--and /damn/ was he glad for it--but there were more areas to cover, and they were running out of time. Immobilized or not, they still had to keep going.
He let out a frantic wheeze as his eyes tried to bob towards the north--towards the street leading away from the direction they'd come. He wanted to go someplace new--if nothing else, to scope out the enemies and prepare while waiting for his body to come back online.
