Shout out to Geek Vape!
They bill the whole Aegis series as built for durability, and it definitely seems to hold up anecdotally among folks who have used the earlier devices which got popular enough to expand the range for years. Which made them look more appealing to me, after I broke that last dual 18650
It really does feel like a brick, but I wasn't so sure about that oversized OLED screen when I got this Aegis X maybe a year ago. Turns out the thing apparently isn't as huge a weak point as I was afraid it might be!
Because this is it after my clumsy ass did a dummy, and sent it plummeting out this window earlier. 🙄 (Better not to ask. Not sure I can even adequately explain that move.)
With bonus random old lady neighbor, apparently. Thankfully nobody was walking underneath there when this mostly metal brick made its little bid for freedom. 😰
At least the impact zone is grass rather than concrete, is all I can say. But, not too shabby for a plunge out a 2nd floor window!
The tank was even fine, which surprised me a bit. Even though that is the crappy smaller polycarbonate "glass" currently on there since I hadn't yet replaced the last larger bubble glass piece I accidentally busted.
It got jarred hard enough to switch itself off, and I was halfway expecting some damage to the internal electricals. But nope, it powered back up no problem, and nothing has threatened to overheat/explode after several hours. *fingers crossed* Behaving just like normal.
So yeah, in case anyone else is similarly good at breaking sometimes expensive shit, I really would recommend the Aegis mods.
No real complaints about the small internal battery Aegis Hero pod system, either. That also seems sturdy as hell, IME. So far mine has held up to plenty of more "normal" drops onto concrete and wood floors both, and only occasionally gotten the drip tip flying off intact.
