Aelora is the first child of Melara and Aemond who despite having her mother's looks is a Targaryen to the bone. She was a happy, friendly, adventurous child who adored dragons and eagerly waited to grow so she could ride one herself. She had a dragon called Sunheart who she affectionately called "Sunny" that hatched while she was still in a cradle.
Things drastically changed once the war came to an end. With the loss of most of her family and her dear dragon Aelora lost a big part of herself, she grew more resentful and was prone to outbursts of anger. She was very furious when she heard her mother's plans on marrying one of them to Aegon (even more at Haela as she volunteered to be the one), especially after what happened. It wasn't Aegon's fault obviously but Aelora doesn't see it and understand how they could side with him after his side took everything from them.
Once Melara died she tried to distance herself completely from everything that reminded her of her and bury all memories, to the point where she never wore green and turned away from her sister. Aelora spent most of her life in Highgarden ignoring her sister's pleas for reconciliation until Daeron's death when she finally decided to reach out to her sister to mend their rocky relationship.
