#17 “Why did you choose me?”
“Why did you choose me?” Aegon asked idly, his head on her lap and twirling a blue rose in his hand, “Of all your suitors, why me?”
“Would you like the political answer, or the personal?” Sansa twisted her fingers into his hair.
He smiled dryly up at her, “Are they not the same for you?”
“True!” She let out a light laugh and began to make a braid. “Very well then, the personal and political it shall be. The first reason, my darling, was that you were closer to my age than most who bid for my hand.”
Aegon laughed, “How romantic! I suppose I should be glad I was born when I was, then.”
“You should! The oldest was, I think, in his seventies. A Lord from the Vale.” Sansa could not hold back her shudder.
“So my age was the first reason you chose me. Any other reason?”
“The second, and please promise you shall not be offended,” She waited for his nod before continuing. “The second reason was that, although you had the name and the blood, you did not have the power to take my throne from me. You did not have the land or the support to be able to usurp me.”
He sat up at that, his hair pulling freefrom her fingers with a tug, “Truly?”
“Wow. I am honoured. You found my landless status attractive.”
Sansa shoved him gently, “I find all of you attractive. But you know what I mean, you would not do as a Lannister would in the same position and steal my crown for your own.”
“I do know that.” He conceded with a grumble, laying back in her lap, “Still a bit of a blow to my ego.”
Sansa leant down to place a kiss on the top of his nose, “You love being my consort of leisure. You would be bored witless by the paperwork of being king.”
He titled his head up to ask for another kiss, which she gladly gave him. “Go on then,” He sighed, “What is the third reason you chose me? My age, my lack of political power and?”
“And.” Sansa pressed a kiss to his face after each word, “I could not help myself from falling madly in love with you at our very first meeting.”
He caught her lips with his own for the final kiss, deepening it into a proper kiss.
“Well.” He said, when they broke apart, “That’s alright then I suppose. Seeing as I fell madly in love with you when I first heard of the Wolf Queen of the North.”
