another thing about my view of myself / my art is... i don’t let myself absorb success, pride, and positive feedback. i don’t meditate on belief in myself, or replay a kindness, or let myself feel the softness and warmth of the encouragements i receive. i seethe with envy, and cut myself with comparison. i stew in my failures and regrets and the flaws i see and pick at. but it’s hard to just change; impossible to do overnight. so i’m gonna start by joining communities, and spreading support and leaving valuable, nutritious feedback of my own, the kind i would like. and by nudging myself to confront and accept every compliment by saying thank you instead of deferring, and listing all that’s wrong. i need t’ be tracking and celebrating milestones. and collecting each nice comment. and stare at the drawings i’m proud of, smiling at them, absorbing the sense of accomplishment, and not let my little criticism gremlin rub her tainted hands all over it. ruminating on positive feedback from myself is just as important as positive feedback from others.

i want to feel the positive now. out of the boiling pot, into the bubble bath

i haven’t become numb to the shock and joy i feel about ukiuk’s reception at all, but i have felt a little like... disenchanted? with the art itself, i guess? but i only bring that up to say i have been feeling that way, and i looked at the image today just now and felt a kinda... renewed pride in her design and how i accomplished my vision. even if it’s not at the level of technical skills i want to achieve and i want to grow, it’s objectively pretty great
