I didn't apply to the UCs, but my general advice is don't be afraid to be weird and make yourself stand out! one of the more selective scholarships I won was because I wrote an essay about the word "liminality," and another school accepted me because my essay was about all the cool stuff I'd do as Iron Man. really anything you can do in general to make yourself stand out is good--admissions'll remember your application when it comes to making decisions.

along with the scholarship thing, apply for as many of the uc scholarships as you can. i personally applied to as many as possible (including the one about being the descendant of a member of the Navy during WWII thx grandma) and even though I didn't get any of them there was still the chance
oh yeah and make sure to report your finances correctly so u can get financial aid
