So today at AES, I spent an hour listening to legendary Spinal Tap bassist Derek Smalls talk about his solo record, Smalls Change. It was a riot—and it was all him, not that cheap imitator Harry Shearer. There is an undefinable charm to hearing a clip of Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen singing about Smalls’ member, crooning “Willie don’t lose that lumber.”
