Aether Rewind: The Kawaii Girls of Instagram (Part 3) Audrey M💘 (@mh_audrey)
A: So, where are you from and where do you live now?
Au: I'm from Canada, but I currently live in Hong Kong - Before moving to Hong Kong, I lived in Japan for two years.
A: What inspires you / where do you get your inspiration from?
Au: With regards to fashion, I always like to watch and observe people on the street-- even if their style is different to mine, I want to see how they've style themselves and how I can perhaps transpose the idea of their outfit into my style.
I'm also lucky to have many amazing and wonderful friends who are also super stylish! I love seeing what outfits they create~
A: What is your favourite online store?
Au: I actually don't do much online shopping at all! I prefer to buy things in person so I can feel the material or try it on to see how it fits.
A: Where is your favourite place to shop in real life?
Au: In Hong Kong, I love to go to Argyle Center! You can find so many cute, unique accessories and cool street style clothes for SO cheap.
In Japan, I love going to Harajuku in Tokyo. It's a great blend of unique alternative fashion and popular cute brands. My favourite accessories shop, Paris Kids, is in Harajuku-- I have so many earrings and necklaces from there!
A: What's your favourite anime?
Au: My favourite anime is Yami no Matsuei-- but the manga is much better! For the manga and the anime, the art and characters are so beautiful and compelling.
A: Favourite Sanrio character?
Au: I'm actually not super into Sanrio characters-- I much prefer Rilakkuma and Kapibarasan!
A: Do you have a fashion blog or ever thought about starting one?
Au: I guess I sort of consider my Instagram to be my fashion blog since I post my outfits and looks on there. Right now, I don't have time to create a separate blog to elaborate more on my outfits or thoughts on fashion-- Instagram is all I can manage for now!
A: What's the dream for you?
Au: Actually, my dream is to write fantasy novels - someday!
Where does your interest in cute/kawaii style come from?
Au: For me, fashion is a creative process-- it's about image and perception and impression. Cute/kawaii fashion really represents an abandonment of how we as individuals are 'expected' to dress. As someone in their mid-20s, I'm probably expected to dress 'like an adult'-- whatever that means-- and not in the super feminine and whimsical style that I do. Growing up in Canada, I feel like as women get older, explicit femininity is seen as childish and negative-- but I want to celebrate femininity through my fashion.
A: Which artist/designer is your biggest influence?
Au: No matter what they come out with, I will always love and support and throw my money at Liz Lisa. Not only do I wear Liz Lisa, but that's the brand that really inspired me to dress the way I do now.
