NEWS: Norwegian Progressive Rock Band ÆVINTYR Release Debut Album “Gjest Baardsen”.

The Norwegian progressive rock band ÆVINTYR have released their debut album “Gjest Baardsen“.

The music is composed by Bjørnar Selsbak and can be described as a crossover that draws on heavy rock as well as classical music. Besides the standard rock instrumentation of drums, bass and distorted guitars, classical singers contribute to this original sounding effort along with brass and strings.

According to KEXP, standout track, “Ævintýr”—which translates to “adventure”—is based on the true story of a Brazilian man who was buried alive and clawed himself out. The song begins with a spare beat and slowly expands upward, eventually becoming punctuated by gasping sounds. “You must face your fairytale,” Sóley sings in the soaring chorus, and by the song’s end—returned back to the beat of the beginning—we’re left wondering whether the “once upon a time” is to be found in the man’s burial or in his exhumation.
