Trumpets sound and the wrath falls down
The day was coming to an end and Glorfindel sat with a nimber of his friends watching those who still wished to dance do so with a drink in hand. It had been a fine day, full of song and celebration with good friends. Someone made a risqué joke and he laughed loudly, a bright smile in the late sunshine.
Almost...almost...they could forget the threat that lay beyond their hidden valley. For one day at least most could stray from their watch and come together with all of the citizens of Gondolin to celebrate the Tarnin Austa, only leaving a light watch on the walls.
A knocking on wood and they all looked up, chatter dying away as Turgon rose at the head of the long table they were sat on, his goblet raised and a smile on his face. His daughter on one side, beautiful as ever, with her husband on the other and little Earendil in his fathers’ arms. Turgon opened his mouth to begin speaking and was interrupted with a cry.
Trumpets sounded as the soldier ran over, shouting and calling for arms. All stood and with solemn faces looked to the East where a red light shone...though the sun setting towards the west...
