You know what annoys me about the like "there's no reason for ship hate" in the Star Wars fandom is that (at least from my perspective and the blogs I follow) it's not needless hate. Ppl are taking an offensive, abusive, and little bit racist ship, and telling ppl what's wrong with it. That's not ship hate. You have no idea how much I wish that when I was younger that someone would have explained to me the problematic things about my ships back then. Bc the fact of the matter is that if we're not clear and we don't show each other the issues and accept that they're problematic, we're spreading the idea that this behavior is OK in a relationship bc "he always loved her" or "he's going to change for her". Just like 50 shades of Grey was dangerous for promoting abuse. I'm not going to stop you from shipping things but don't pretend they're ok. Don't spread it to the younglings in fandom that this kinda thing is OK. We have to be critical of the media we consume even if it is fandom. Or we start to normalize and forgive things and we set ourselves up as bad examples for the future. And the fact is, if we romanticize abuse like that, ppl carry that into their real lives. We often wish our relationships emulated our fantasy and if we don't make ppl aware, they can actually get hurt. I mean, I don't like the ship and you're not gonna find any love for it here on my blog. But I'm tired of seeing these long ass posts that are running in circles trying desperately to portray their ship in a good light and like stop it. No. Accept that it's problematic, that it has its issues. I'm not asking you to stop shipping it but own up to it. Stop trying to delude yourselves.
