Five years after I first said, "I might like to be a children's book writer," I have submitted my first truly complete manuscript to a publisher.

There were false starts. There were times when I thought, "This is great text," when it wasn't. There were times when I didn't write for months. Now, there's nothing to do but wait, with fingers, toes and eyes crossed.

Gave this sweet book to my 5-year-old godson. His first questions: What's a paperboy? Is he made out of paper?
