When Brown has long hair in the series, it was her own aided with extensions and fake bangs to make it look frizzier. The idea was to have Eleven start to mirror Joyce, played by Winona Ryder, as she was living with the Byers family at this point; really, Hindsgaul wanted all of the Byers housemates to look as if Joyce had cut their hair herself on the kitchen counter. "I really wanted Eleven and Joyce to look like each other this year. She's now part of [the Byers family] and she's like a little chameleon — she'll just transform," says Hindsgaul. "We had pictures of [Millie] and Winona in the trailer next to each other. I had a picture of Millie and everybody would come in and be like, 'Oh, Winona!'"
