The waters were pretty rough today, but those that dare to ride the rough waters reap the rewards. I caught another 2 nice sized bull dorado aka mahi mahi (the fish so nice they named it twice), and the old man pulled in a striped marlin. Usually we catch & release the marlin, but it got hooked in the belly, and the hook tore its belly to the gills, so it died when it got up to the side of the boat. My dad kept a little of the meat to eat tonight, and we gave the rest to some of the locals. So while it’s unfortunate we couldn’t release it, nothing will go to waste. It was a great way to close out the fishing for this trip. If I look like a walking murder scene, it’s because I killed it today! I Kobe’d the hell out of the Sea Of Cortez! I finally caught my first dorado aka mahi mahi (the fish so good they named it twice). I also caught my limit in yellowfin tuna, and I caught 2 striped marlin that I released back into the sea to live another day. We caught 1 big yellowfin & 1 small yellowfin tuna, 4 bonita tunas, about 10 baby amberjack tunas, and 1 decent sized pilot shark. I really wanted to take a pic with the shark I caught, but they don’t play around when a shark is on board. They had him in the boat long enough to take the hook out, and throw him back in the water. He was one pissed off shark.🦈 We made some sashimi out of the tuna I’m holding, and it was muy delicioso! 🤤 We were the only boat to catch anything today, so we were the heroes of the day pulling up to dock. I caught 2 good size yellowfin tunas & a seagull today… I almost had a dorado, but that’s fishing. It was an overcast, yet beautiful day on the water, and we caught a lot of fish. Everyone on the boat brought at least 1 fish home with them. No small ones were caught. I fought one of my tunas for like 30 mins, but he refused to come in. So I guess a sea lion was getting frustrated with my struggle, and decided to help me out by taking a big chunk out my tuna’s head. It doesn’t get much better for a day out on the water. I’m tired, sweaty, sunburned, hungry, and my palms are blistered, but we did the damn thing, and hauled in a full boat of 19 decent sized yellowfin tuna for a combined weight of 168lbs. We couldn’t stop catching fish even if we tried. It was a beautiful day, slightly overcast with a nice breeze. Now it’s time for a drink & a nice Cuban cigar while we wait for the chef to prepare one of our fish for dinner. I’ve gained a deep respect for these fish. If it had the chance, it could puncture my chest plate with it’s bill with ease. Today I won the tug-of-war with a small striped marlin, but since Marlin meat flares my gout, I let him go. Hopefully it gained it’s strength back before a shark took notice. Otherwise we saw a lot of porpoise, but couldn’t get the tuna to bite. That’s why it’s called fishing, not catching.
