This family seems to have a theme going on with all of their places of residency having cloud in their names.
“The pine that’s blue” why I do not even have to check in this case to know it is verdant for blue does not make all that much sense for a pine tree while verdant would fit exactly. And double-checking this I am indeed correct.
Green-headed perch, huh. Well, the Common Perch or Perca Fluviatilis does have a green head. And although it is also known as the European Perch it is native to Asia as well, so this works very well as a translation.
Regardless in the Original Chinese it does not seem to be a perch. As far as I could figure out it rather might to be a Japanese Amberjack also called a Yellowtail or Seriola Quinqueradiata, which is native to the Pacific Ocean, so Asia as well.
Since the character for “green” is actually [Qīng] it can technically also read as blue which matches the blue head of the Yellowtail.
Yet there seems to be some colour variation among the species as well making [Qīng] aka verdant all the more fitting.
That is all just speculation on my part though as I could not get a very clear result in my amateur research.
Okay so, shaming Princess Iron-Fan here when for all accounts and purposes Sun Wukong is the one to deceive and lead her on is just rude and unfair and reeking of misogyny, the victim blaming kind. She thought in all earnestness that this was really her husband and she has clearly been lonely.
Plus she seems to believe her husband did not come back for so long because he enjoys sleeping with Princess Jade Countenance, so in light if that she might have been trying to persuade him to stay with her again in this way. On top of all that she is drunk! Like cut her all the slack here, there is not a thing she did wrong, any and all potential blame rests firmly on Sun Wukong.
And imagine how she must be feeling right now, how horrified she probably is that she might have ended up as a victim of assault. The very least Sun Wukong should be doing here is clarifying ‘By the way, rest assured I would never have taken advantage of you in that manner. I genuinely just needed the fan.’.
Using “gaiety” here after explicitly stating that Sun Wukong is not into women, the translator has to have done that on purpose, it is just too good to be a coincidence.
There was an easy way Sun Wukong could have gotten the fan. Ask Red Boy for help, it would have been so simple.
