Fashion from the past is amazing, but seeing people of today redesign fashion from the past is even better. An example of this would be this picture:

  The students of AFOL Moda took textiles from India and repurposed them into designs to look like they are from a different era. The even better part is that the Italians always manage to work something Italian into things.  From each visit, every Italian stresses the importance of Made in Italy. In the US, people like to see Made in the USA but in Italy it means something totally different. The people here view it as something very superior and everyone tries to keep everything in Italy. The government even subsidizes the men’s tailoring class to ensure the craft of handmade, Italian suits is past down from generation to generation. If anyone came to Italy, their biggest take away from the Italians would be how much pride they have in their country. I have noticed their pride so much and I am jealous our connection with the USA is not this strong. Arianna Piazzo, admissions and fashion history teacher explained the ins and outs of their school. Two quotes I take with me from her are “Importance is not only on the outside but also on the inside” and “Nothing less than perfection”. These quotes can be related to not only school but also in life. I thank Arianna Piazzo for her time and wise words.

AFOL Moda is the most impressive fashion school that I have ever visited and I have visited over forty schools.  They are focused on taking the idea that is in each individuals mind and making it reality.  Everything about their program is outstanding.  The typical student, ages 19 to 35, will stay anywhere from two to four years, the older bracket staying for less time because they are antsy to begin their career.  There is a very high success rate that precedes this school.  Every student has a job within the first two years after graduating.  The job is many times a contract, but that is better than nothing in the economy nowadays.  I feel as though this school is so effective because they find pride in the Italian tradition of handmade, quality clothing.  Most brands are going elsewhere to manufacture their clothes because it is more affordable, but Italy is still producing quality handmade clothing for those who are searching for it.  AFOL Moda really knows what it is doing by teaching the student “project to product” and keeping the tradition in the process.
