A Fool There Was (1915)
The 12th song on Darken Your Doorstep- (Dear Theda,) is a song I wrote in remembrance of silent screen actress Theda Bara, as an acknowledgement to her adopted "Vamp" persona that became both the blessing and curse of her nearly forgotten career. A more in depth backstory on the song can be found in my most recent Facebook post. 🐍👑🐍 (NEW Euro LP + CD version in bio link) #thedabara #silentfilm #argylegoolsby #darkenyourdoorstep #deartheda #afooltherewas
#thedabara 1915. The #silentfilm star was famous for playing #exotic sexually aggressive women who lured respectable men to their doom. Her character in her first film #afooltherewas was referred to as the vampire woman, from which came the term #vamp to describe alluring yet dangerous women. She often appeared in revealing (especially for the time) costumes and a fake backstory regarding her upbringing was created to go along with her image. In reality she was just nice #Jewish girl #theodosiagoodman from #cincinnati. Almost all of her films were destroyed in a vault fire. #hollywood #movies
