Making more masks, all profits to Black Lives Matter UK. These will be sold alongside my ‘profits to the NHS’ masks... causes extremely close to my heart. • For the masks I have used handmade Ghanaian Adinkra fabric with the symbol: BI NKA BI literally meaning ‘bite not one another’. It represents peace and harmony. • Adinkra was traditionally made for African royalty and each symbol tells a story. There are over 120 symbols and this one seemed the most fitting for now. • This pro-peace batik fabric is made by a 3 generation family business in Accra and connects to part of my heritage. Each purchase helps keep authentic African textiles businesses alive and supports independent UK business. • I wanted to use my creativity to contribute to the BLM fund in supporting black life against institutional racism. Lots of work needs to be done... Black lives matter and have always mattered. 🖤 Stay safe. . . . . . . . . . . . . #adinkra #adinkrasymbols #africanbatik #batik #facemask #africantextiles #blackhistory #peace #harmony #ghana #africa #handmade #craft #joannavanderpuije #blm #blackbusiness (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBIx_MgAkUc/?igshid=19nxbm8khsin8
