✨DIY African Black Soap Facial Wash (Enhanced)✨
African Black Soap is a must have when it comes to natural skin care because it’s effective at deeply cleansing pores due to its natural exfoliating properties. It is made from the ash of locally harvested plants and barks such a plantain, cocoa pods, palm tree leaves, and shea tree bark. Black soap is traditionally made in West Africa but is sometimes adulterated with artificial ingredients during mass production in western societies. Authentic African Black Soap should look brown and not black (Major 🔑).
I picked up this black soap during my last trip to Nigeria, but it can also be purchased from most International/African Markets and even your local beauty supply store (I recommend the Dudu Osun brand if purchasing from the BSS).
Black soap gently cleanses impurities without harmful chemicals and also contains antibacterial properties due to the plantain extract. It is ideal for treating acne breakouts, fading skin discolorations, including dark spots and acne scars, and reducing discomfort for those suffering from psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, skin rashes and dryness.
This mixture is enhanced with super ingredients to help further combat blemishes and other skin issues (especially acne scars).
Ingredients:
1. Raw black soap (fill up half of your bottle/jar with small bits of the soap)
2. 2 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar “with the mother”
3. 1 tsp Honey
4. 10 drops 100% Lemon Essential Oil
5. Fill to top with warm water
After adding all of the ingredients to your bottle or jar, let sit over night or until the black soap has completely dissolved before using.
✅Combat irritation (burning, stinging, redness) associated with use by using a very small amount (literally a few drops) and working into a lather before applying to face. Being gentle is key in preventing small granules and particles generally found in black soap from scratching and damaging the surface of your skin.
✅Prevent dryness by washing and rinsing skin with cool water to help skin retain more moisture. Follow up with a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer (I use Aloe Vera Gel with a few drops of 100% Rosehip Essential Oil)
✅For sensitive skin, DO NOT leave the soap on the skin for a long period of time. It’s not a masque sis 😂. You could experience a tingling or burning sensation on areas where you have acne, open sores or cuts.
✅If your skin feels squeaky clean afterwards, it means the skin is too dry. Try reducing the amount of soap that you use. A very small amount will cleanse your entire face and neck. A little goes a long way!
